Rabbi Herschel Taubenfeld, who was thought to have fled area to avoid arrest, turned himself into Ramapo Police this morning.

The Rockland County Times is reporting that alleged New Square pedophile Rabbi Herschel Taubenfeld, who was thought to have fled area to avoid arrest, turned himself into Ramapo Police this morning.
Taubenfeld, described as a “well connected” New Square resident, is charged with 30 counts of sex abuse:
• 10 counts of Forcible Touching (Class A Misdemeanors)
• 10 counts of Endangering the welfare of a Child (Class A Misdemeanors)
• 10 counts of Sex Abuse in the 3rd degree (Class B Misdemeanors)
His bond was set at $15,000. His next court date is scheduled for Monday, February 6, 2012 at 6 p.m. in the New Square Village Court.
According to the Rockland County Times report, Rockland County police said the charges against Taubenfeld all stem from his alleged actions with a minor male, all of which allegedly took place over a five month period between March 2011 and July 2011 in Taubenfeld’s News Square home.

smart move . at least , he turned himself , which is good . his sentence will be a lot lessened .
shuchat should have done the same , surrender to police instead of fleeing the country . the fact that he left the country, he will get more jail term .

Why only 15k bond for 30 counts? If they thought he would flee the area before, what stops him now?

he looks so 'holy'. his beard, his furry hat, his long black coat, his 'clean' expression. everything .
you could never tell . he seems so trustworthy . therefore, never trust a chosid by his trustworthy appearance .

yanky, I'm no chasid, but your comment is frankly revolting. The way one dresses or prays is "neither here nor there" when it comes to crimes like child molestation. Child molesters come in all shapes, sizes, ethnic groups, religions, and socioeconomic strata.
Don't get me wrong: I'm the first to decry people "assuming he must be innocent" or declining to take serious action because he's a pious jew, chasid, whatever. But to say "*always*, think the worst . there is *always* a sick person hiding behind his beard" is frankly pure bigotry.
