Ynet is reporting that a known criminal threatened to kill Rabbi Moshe Turgeman, the nephew of the murdered kabbalist Rabbi Elazar Abuhatzeira, as he was going home from his yeshiva in Netanya Tuesday night.

Last month, Abuhatzeira was murdered by a follower, Rabbi Asher Dahan, who was upset that Abuhatzeira’s blessings and advice to him – given in the form of promises predicated on money being given to Abuhatzeira first – did not come true. 

In the years leading up to the murder, other followers had threatened to kill or maim Abuhatzeira, who had also promised them that his blessings would come true if they paid him astronomically high amounts of money. The blessings did not come true.

Abuhatzeira was investigated by Israel’s tax authority for tax fraud. The investigation was closed after Abuhatzeira paid the Authority 20 Million shekels in back taxes – far less than he allegedly owed.

At his death, Abuhatzeira’s estimated was worth was in the tens of millions of dollars, although some disgruntled former followers put his net worth at several hundred million dollars.

At the time of his death, Abuhatzeira was under investigation in the United States for alleged fraud related to his blessings/promises in exchange for cash.

Turgeman is the great-grandson of the famous Moroccan Jewish mystic Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira, known as the Baba Sali.

Elazar Abuhatzeira was a grandson of the Baba Sali. He was known to his followers as Baba Elazar.

The death threats have got to stop.

Jews should not be killing other Jews. Yesterday's terrible case of an Australian man killing his wife at the Dan Hotel in Tel Aviv is another sad example. BTW, murder is a terrible scourge no matter who the victim.
