2 Arrested In Crown Heights Assault

Efraim Setton and Levi Paul Huebner were arrested Wednesday morning after they allegedly beat up another Jew and attempted to flee from police.

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Efraim Setton and Levi Paul Huebner were arrested Wednesday morning after they beat up another Jew and attempted to flee from police.

The incident took place at around 8:15am in front of 836 Montgomery Street near the scene of a car accident, where Setton attacked another Jewish man, kicking him and knocking him to the ground and proceeded to pummel him, kicking him in the legs and face.

Tens of people rushed to the victim’s aid after he cried for help; EMS and Police heard the cries as well and rushed over. As officers approached, Setton fled into the building and hid inside his apartment, refusing to open his door to police.

EMTs took the victim into an ambulance and began treating him for his injuries to his head, face and legs. He was later transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

As the victim was being treated, a police officer spotted Setton leaving his apartment building and running into a waiting car. Once inside, the car reversed down Montgomery Street at a high rate of speed, prompting police to call for backup and chase the car, which they stopped near the intersection of Albany Avenue.

The driver was the lawyer Levi Paul Huebner who is Setton’s father-in-law. When police approached the vehicle, the occupants refused to open the doors and refused to comply with police orders. Finally police got the door open and immediately placed Hubener in handcuffs as he was screaming “I’m in COP, I’m in COP, I need a hospital.”

Police attempted to get Setton out of the car but he refused and resisted as well.

After inciting a massive scene with many onlookers, police managed to take them both into custody. Between the two of them they were charged with Assault, Resisting Arrest and Evading, as well as Obstruction of Governmental Administration among other charges.

Donna, you are confusing the socioeconomic history of the metro-NY/NJ area with entirely different topics around the globe.

Many of the old Jewish neighborhoods got an influx of minorities in the late 1950's and 1960's. Those were often uneducated, unemployed, and a rough crowd- the opposite of their Jewish neighbors.

The Jews of NYC and Newark Jewish neighborhoods became more educated, successful, and upwardly mobile, especially the kids of immigrants and Holocaust survivors. They moved on to better and nicer places to live.
Even in neighborhoods where those other minorities didn't move in, the next generation of Jews gradually moved on into nicer suburban areas, or relocated for better professional opportunities for advancement.

what i got was that the victim was the guy who publishes crownheightsinfo, and that the older guy was the lawyer for a guy who pressed charges against 6 shomrim for how they handled a dispute they were called to handle. apparently one of the 6 faced charges, and the rest not, but bad feelings abound for these two for that and other incidents.

APC, that story about the incident with the shomrim seems to remain a major cause of continuing bad blood in CH.

Reading between the lines of the stories over the past months about that incident, I got the impression that there are two main factions: a meshichist/Israeli group of thugs, who also strike me as Rubashkin 'fundraising' enforcers, and the other group which is part of the more straight-up Chabad organization.

All very confusing stuff but it seems there are two ways of classifying people in Crown heights.

The first is meshichist/messianic or anti-meshichist. If you are meshichist you believe the deceased rebbe is not only alive but also the Messiah.

The other way of classifying people is to which volunteer quasi-police volunteer group you support. The rival groups are Shomrim and Shmira. These two groups are sworn enemies and frequently assault each other and attempt to get each other arrested. The Huebner character seems to be the lawyer/ringleader of one of these groups. The editor of crownheights.info is ringleader of the other. At some point Huebner got a few Israelis with no command of the English language to accuse the rivals including the ch.info editor of felony assaults. The whole story is confusing and sad.

I have great compassion for Crown Heights Jews as they suffer from the mental illness of Messiah Deprivation Syndrome otherwise known as MDS. It is akin to depression with psychotic features and arises when a putative Messiah turns out to be a fraud.

When it became clear that Sabbatai Zevi was a false Messiah the Jewish communities of Europe and Asia fell into massive MDS. In fact it is true that the extreme spiritual hole was filled by the nascent Hassidic movement. For it was in the very shtetls where Zevi was most popular that Hassids grew strongest.

MDS symtoms:

(1) The rational mind becomes short-circuited such that otherwise bright men such as Schnorrer Zalman of Bialy wrote in his new bible that goys have souls on par with low animals.

(2) A sub-syndrome of MDS is Rabbi Aggrandizement Syndrome which places Rabbis in every ascending levels of holiness until one reaches the chief Rabbi who is inviolate and inerrant such as Dagon Schneerson.

(3) Cyclical Reversion Syndrome. CRS is a curious sub-species of MDS. CRS takes one from a fundamental premise (i.e. idolatry is anathema) in full circle to the belief that idolatry is acceptable. Hence we will find Dagon Schneerson's photograph near the bemah in a number of Chabad Shul's

I am currently studying MDS and hope to develop further scholarly revelations regarding this psychiatric phenomenon.

I am a criminal defense attorney and could see representing these two yolds under the defense theory of Messiah Deprivation Syndrome.

With respect to my posting above of the curious but real Messiah Deprivation Syndrome it must be understood that this mental illness is truly responsible for the destruction of the Jewish people.

Please recall Bar Kochba who was given this name by Rabbi Akiva. The "star" allusion in the name suggests that Bar Kochba was the messiah. He was heralded as such by Rabbi Akiva.

While we are taught that Akiva was a great Rabbi he was in fact the Jewish version of the anti-christ. The result of his spiritual befuddlement threw the Jewish people in revolt against the great Roman Empire against whom no reasonable degree of success was possible. The result was the deaths of 580,000 Jews followed by the expelling of the remaining thereby leading us on our wanderings.

Akiva as a dirty rotten bastard. He should have kept his nose in his books and let the level-headed Jews of the times deal with the Romans. Jewish history would have been completely different.

As a Lubavitcher and an insider (for the record, I don't frequent this site often), I must say that folks like the victim and this guy Huebner are a very small percentage of the community who just amplify themselves...

Most of the community really, really wants to get over all of this fighting, despite their own ideological differences.
