"I'm very upset because I'm dating a Muslim and my family is being called racist," said Mazo Schwartz, whose father, Simchon Schwartz, 46, was charged with felony hate crimes. After his arrest at a Chabad House in Mill Basin, Simchon Schwartz, who smelled of alcohol at the time, kicked out the window of a police car.

The daughter of a Brooklyn man charged with attacking his Turkish neighbors and calling them "Arab terrorists" insisted Tuesday that her father wasn't a bigot.

"I'm very upset because I'm dating a Muslim and my family is being called racist," said Mazo Schwartz, whose father, Simchon Schwartz, 46, was charged with felony hate crimes.

Cops arrested Simchon Schwartz, who is Jewish, at a Mill Basin synagogue after the alleged attack Saturday night on his next-door neighbors Selda and Mustafa Turan.

Although Simchon Schwartz's family and his rabbi claim he was the victim in the ugly incident, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Simchon Schwartz was the culprit in the encounter in front of his E. 70th St. home. "The information I have is that Mr. Schwartz poured a beer can over Mustafa Turan's wife's head and when Mustafa tried to prevent this, [Schwartz] punched him," Kelly said. "He made anti-Arab statements,"

Mustafa Turan, 32, suffered a gash to his nose that required three stitches. The Turans have not publicly commented on the attack. They remained in seclusion.

Mazo Schwartz claimed Mustafa Turan attacked her dad and shouted an anti-Semitic slur. "My father was walking down the street. They exchanged words, and he [Mustafa Turan] hit him," she said. "We couldn't call the cops because it was the Shabbas."

Her boyfriend of two years, Amer Nicocevic, an Albanian, said Simchon Schwartz never hassled him about being Muslim. "He opened the door and welcomed me in," Nicocevic said.

Simchon Schwartz, a car dealer, was charged with felony assault and felony criminal mischief, both as hate crimes. He could get up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

After his arrest at a Chabad House in Mill Basin, Simchon Schwartz, who smelled of alcohol at the time, kicked out the window of a police car, a law enforcement source said. He was released without bail but ordered to stay away from the Turans, whose townhouse shares a common wall with his home.

Residents of the block where the Turan and Schwartz families live said a feud has simmered between the couples since the Turans moved in a month ago.

How is it conceivable that an openly and unapologetically misogynistic man like Rabbi Groner in the modern & enlightened city of Melbourne, Australia, got away with running several schools for 50 years without his competency ever being queried by government or law officials?

Groner would never have gotten away with housing and then concealing the identity of a pedophile from the rest of the world for 15 odd years, unless he knew he could rely on the 100% silence of not only the Chabad community, but the entire Melbourne Jewish community when it comes to child abuse.

They, all of them, have been literally sitting around in their mansions while
Jewish children, either within walking distance or at most a 15 minute drive across town, have been daily raped and otherwise tormented.

And it has been happening for many, many years.

They say that money talks.
Apparently, it talked so loudly, it drowned out all the screaming.

You have permission to despise them, there is no issue of racial vilification here.

Anti-Semitism does not apply to pedophiles, nor to those who know and keep silent, nor to those who sleep peacefully at the thought that their swimming pools and tennis courts are safely blocking the view.

I suppose it all depends on how much understanding Schwartz has of the real laws. For one thing, drawing blood as described here (assuming it happened) on Shabbat is already a full-blown death-penalty violation (if deliberate).

And it is a very small minority that considers a phone call to be Torah based prohibition, and even then, there is no problem in reducing its severity with a little connivance (use an elbow, hold it upside down, whatever). If indeed violence was involved against Schwartz, then there is little problem in finding a way to call the police.

Of course, it is also possible Schwartz has no concept of how the rules actually work.

Re: the skeptical comments about the daughter not using the phone on Shabbat, although she is dating a non-Jew--it's not impossible that she keeps Shabbat when she is visiting her Orthodox Jewish parents. Many people are not shomer shabbat, but keep it when they stay with observant family--it's not impossible that her father told her it wasn't necessary to call the police about the altercation with Turan at first. Also, there are interfaith couples where the Jewish partner does indeed choose to keep Jewish law as best as they can. I lived with a non-Jewish girlfriend for several years and we kept a kosher kitchen (kashered by a Chabad rabbi),milchik sink and fleshik sink, two sets of dishes and cutlery; the whole nine yards (and paper and plastic for treif take out); I was never fully shomer shabbos in that period, but I also belonged to an Orthodox shul and was a semi-regular minyan-goer , rarely missed shabbos davening and usually came to weekday shaharit several times a month--all the while while I was living with a non-Jewish woman. These things happen. There are a lot of confused people out there.
