Drag Racing Yeshiva Students Crash–Gun, Shomrim ID Found
Two yeshiva students drag racing down 13th Avenue in Borough Park early this morning went through a red light and crashed into a car on 52nd Street. A Shomrim car placard was found in one of their cars, along with a BB gun pistol, which looks like a real automatic handgun.
The Boro Park Scoop reports:
In what is nothing less than a miracle, two Bochrim [unmarried yeshiva students] drag racing down 13th Avenue, barreled through a red light, and collided with a vehicle driving down 52nd Street, early Sunday morning. Residents told BoroParkscoop.com that the collision sounded like a bomb exploded – as a total of six cars were struck – two of them completely totaled. Bichasdei Hashem, no one was killed. The driver of the car on 52nd Street was reportedly going to Vasikin Minyan [a sunrise prayer service], while the Bochrim were spending the early morning drag-racing down 13th Avenue. Police found a BB gun in the trunk (see photos) and a window placard from Boro Park Shomrim.
They were all in stable condition, and no arrests have been made as of this posting.

13th Ave is such a busy street. What were they thinking?

I love how they talk about them going to vasikin minyan. Forget the niceties. Just a bunch of bums who should be punished according to the law.

It was the driver of the car they struck who was going to a vasikin minyan.

Apologies to the Beach Boys:
Little Jewish Coupe
You don't know what I got
Little Jewish Coupe
You don't know what I got
Well I'm not a baal gaivah, so don't put me down
But I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
When sunrise comes up I go to pray
'Cause if I had a set of tefillin I'd daven that way
Refrain;
She's my little Jewish coupe
You don't know what I got
(My little Jewish coupe)
(You don't know what I got)
Just a little Jewish coupe with a Flatbush hat
But she'll walk a goyish car like (she's) it's standin' flat
She's got a Shomrim plaque and my payos and "boord"
She'll do a hundred and forty with the top end floored
(refrain)
She's got a competition clutch with the four on the floor
And she purrs like a kitten or the shor habor
And if that ain't enough to make me a choshover Yid
There's one more thing, I got the BB gun, Tatty.
And comin' off the line when the light turns green
Well she hocks 'em a tchinek like you never seen
I get pushed out of shape and it's hard to steer
When I smash other cars in the rear
(refrain, repeated till fade out)

13th avenue and that time in not busy
waiting for the excuses from the frummas.
1. They heard they where needed for a minyan right away
2. They made a bracha for bread but did not have any so they raced home to find bread so not to have made a blessing in vain
anybody who even thinks of criticizing these boys are either antisemitic or self hating Jews

I thought Shomrim only takes married men.
Were the drivers licensed?
Was it a stolen car, or borrowed without permission?
Stay tuned.

And no arrests will be made, either, thanks to frumma protekzia.

Reminds me of how every time some thug gets arrested, the local media refers to him as an 'honors student' or a 'pre-med student'.
The same was mentioned in Bonfire of the Vanities.

Shomrim prefers to take thugs, hoodlum types, and Israeli bail jumpers.

DO THEY HAVE THE BOYS IN CUSTODY?

Any news regarding the state of the driver of the cat that they hit?
And this is what he gets for zresus HaMitzva? Very sad indeed.

Oh, but God did such a great miracle that he wasn't killed. Isn't God wonderful?

This is a story I like. Yeshiva bochurim acting like normal red-blooded American youths -- street racing. May the trend continue; they'll quickly discover the joys of secularism and trade in their kippas for backwards-facing baseball caps.
Now let them race their hopped-up Honda Civics on a racetrack or dragstrip rather than city streets where nobody gets hurt or ticketed.
One minor criticism of the song parody: These days the competition clutch has six on the floor.

the only explanation is that at that very second he had a evil thought or was just about the turn around and go to burger king to eat breakfast.
there is no other explanation since it says if one is on his way to do a mizvha one cannot be harmed

If God is indeed haredi, He doesn't wake up until about 11am, just like they do.

If you sarcastically think a bb gun is a joke, how about taking a bb in the eye? Maybe then you wouldn't think it's so funny.
Posted by: WoolSilkCotton | June 19, 2011 at 03:52 PM
I assume Shomrim and Hatzoloh were called, so they could quickly cover up for all frumma involved, let the culprits escape, and tell the police that nobody saw anything.

What really makes me want to puke is reading the "story" and comments on a so-called frum web site like the Yeshiva World News and its partner in chilul Hashem, Boro [sic] Park Scoop.
Illegal weapon, no problem? Reckless driving, drag racing? The kolel is so stressful they need to have an outlet. LOL.
And how about that fraudulent Shomrim parking placard? Earth to Shomrim: you're not law enforcement but unlicensed buffs. You have no business making placards.
Remember a few years ago when some like-minded behamos rioted on 16th Avenue? The reason? Another one had gotten a ticket for talking on a cell phone.
What a damn disgrace!
Ray Kelly, please have them arrested at the hospital before they leave town!!!

how about throwing a penny in your eye? or a acorn?
don't be stupid because of your hate, there is no excuse for their racing, but it is horrible reporting, when you report a gun found, when all it was is a bb gun which couldn't kill a sparrow at point blank.

"""when you report a gun found, when all it was is a bb gun which couldn't kill a sparrow at point blank."""
Hold a BB gun [looks real] in Texas at a traffic stop, the Texas cops will empty their weapon on you [then push in their 2nd clip and empty that too].
The Grand Jury routinely does 'no bill' on cases like this

My understanding of gun laws in New YOrk city is that a BB gun is considered a "deadly weapon" under the law, and the possesor is liable to the same penalty as if he has a Glock 9mm.

And try walking into any bodega in Brooklyn carrying your harmless bb gun.

Don't bring a BB gun to a gunfight.
Posted by: Nigritude Ultramarine | June 19, 2011 at 07:11 PM
A mouse gun is considered the same as a mouse gun. Makes a lot of sense. Now, if you're carrying a REAL weapon it's a whole different matter :)
Posted by: anuran | June 19, 2011 at 08:42 PM
no one brought any gun to any fight, it happened to be in their car. If you don't know the difference between a bb and a gun, you must have lived in nyc your whole life. Not too far away upstate in NY where I grew up, it is legal for kids from 16 and up to own them, and they do. everyone does. And I have yet to hear of someone shooting an eye out with it.
NYC is one of the only places in the world where a bb is considered dangerous. Perhaps this is very much connected with the very high level of murders and holdups, as criminals do not obey this law for some odd reason.

Whilst I am no firearms wimp and a strong believer in the RTBA, no police officer (or criminal) is going to have time to consider what you are holding is a "real" gun or a "toy". You point something that looks like a gun at a person, and you deserve to suffer the consequences (if not a legitimate act of self defence).

Posted by: Reuven | June 20, 2011 at 08:09 AM
To call them "drivers" is over-generous. At best they are occupiers of driver's seats in cars. Personally, wherever possible, I keep well clear of anything wearing a black hat or a sheitel (whether parking or driving). They also seem to wear all the scratches and dents on their cars/vans as badges of honour.
As I have mentioned before on these esteemed pages I regularly see a hat drive down my street early in the morning wearing tefillin and tallis. Zero peripheral vision. I hope the police book him before he kills someone...
Posted by: David | June 20, 2011 at 09:29 AM
Addendum to above: I am not sure if he is also trying to "daven" as he "drives"...
