I don't know enough about the back story. Was this man, Chaim Rotenburg, the victim in the arson incident, performing a mitzva by praying with elderly people in a nursing home outside the town? I can imagine the elderly might like having a fresh, young face in their minyan. (I do know from the news reports that Rotenburg was also motivated to pray at the nursing home because of some differences with the other shul).

For all you 'unwashed' out there, the title BUTLER is a misnomer, and a British one at that.

In the Chassidis dynasties, the ADMOR (which is a Hebrew Acronym for Master/Teache/Our Rabbi) meaning Grand Rabbi/Big Chief / Head Honcho whatever, has many acolytes.

If you watch this news report from Sept. 2010, it does explain that the people who were praying with the elderly in the nursing home were doing it to do a mitzva, but for some reason the head rabbi of New Square didn't agree. Already in Sept. 2011 they were victim of vandalism to their cars. I don't get why it is even anyone's business where they go to minyan and if people are doing a mitzva, that is a good thing. Shouldn't the community be doing mitzvas instead of vandalism, arson or murder? At least that is what I seem to remember learning in yeshiva.

How are they allowing the kids to be raped? This is what fear and pressure to conform does to people. We see it even among the Modern Orthodox. I heard a story just the other day about a boy who's been humiliated by rabbis in our local MO day school. The mother hates them, but won't take him out of the school. What would the neighbors think?

A couple of years ago, there was an NCSY rabbi who was punching boys in the stomach for not putting on tefillin. Seriously. I couldn't understand why their fathers weren't chasing the bastard down the street with a baseball bat. (They were Modern Orthodox, so I assume at least one or two of them might have one, or at least know where to buy one!) This is what fifty years of Haredi influence has done to them.
