Sext-educators end up with no class
By SUSAN EDELMAN • New York Post
Texting students day and night -- and, in one case, allegedly sending a lewd picture -- landed an assistant principal and two teachers in hot water.
Rivky Love, 36, a math teacher at Edward R. Murrow HS in Brooklyn, hounded a girl -- whom she called her "best friend and sister" -- with intimate messages into the wee hours.
One evening text read, "husband not here . . . kids asleep . . . have dinner with me," according to a report by special schools investigator Richard Condon. Other missives said, "Love you."
When the student didn't message the teacher during a winter recess, the report says, Love fired off a furious text: "I AM SO MAD AT YOU. YOU HATE ME. YOU FORGOT ABOUT ME."
Love even suggested she would slip her a copy of an upcoming test, investigators found.
In a long administrative trial, Love wept and admitted improper conduct, but denied any sexual motive and insisted she offered the test "jokingly." She was suspended for six months without pay.
Thomas Coleman, 33, a former assistant principal at University Neighborhood HS in Manhattan, allegedly sent a female student who had just graduated a text message with a picture of male genitals.
Condon said cellphone records showed Coleman sent her 112 text messages over three months -- and four picture attachments. The untenured Coleman denied sending the photo but was fired.
Homer Panteloglou, 39, exchanged nearly 1,800 texts and 318 calls with a girl at the HS of Finance & Economics in Manhattan, Condon found.
He paid a $7,000 fine, agreed to training and was assigned a non-permanent classroom job at Richard Green HS of Teaching in Manhattan.

I never understood sexting. It is not going to sexually satisfy you. It is not give you companionship.
What motivates people?!

let wait and see how the Orthodox will spin this.
she was only teaching her proper grimmer and spelling, she did it to get the student mad to study more

The stupidity of putting anything like these messages in writing, especially in cyberspace where it becomes a permanent record, is always astounding.

An obviously very disturbed woman. What's most disturbing is that she is allowed to teach in the public school system.

Steve: They do background checks, but can't screen out everybody. If you have no record, it's hard to tell.

There should be some sort of pyschological testing as well. I admit that such testing is faulty and that mental illness is not always discernible. However, it is still necessary in order to protect the children.

I guess sex twice a month just isn't cutting it for her.
Posted by: Yissy-Ca | May 22, 2011 at 02:21 PM
where was she SEXTING? Weird, yes, but sexting? no. (I thought sexting meant sending messages with explicit photos and/or sexual message content)
Well Ruthie, given the Jewish religion's viewpoint on homosexuality, do you suggest that she NOT live a lie if she's a lesbian? Not everyone can just abandon the culture and family that they were raised with, and many people think they can sublimate their sexual feelings. Sooner or later of course the shit hits the fan and everyone suffers - not least of all the person who was living without integrity.

GC, read the story again:
"...One evening text read, "husband not here . . . kids asleep . . . have dinner with me," according to a report by special schools investigator Richard Condon. Other missives said, "Love you."
When the student didn't message the teacher during a winter recess, the report says, Love fired off a furious text: "I AM SO MAD AT YOU. YOU HATE ME. YOU FORGOT ABOUT ME."..."
Is it appropriate to send such messages to a student? Whether lesbian or heterosexual, you do not get involved with a student. That is the problem with this woman, not if she is gay or straight.

And it was only after the 1799th text message that unnamed high school girl realized it was creepy for a teacher at her school to text message her. Wtf? Seriously, why would any teacher ever exchange even ONE SINGLE TEXT with a student in the school they teach at?
Posted by: nobody | May 22, 2011 at 06:18 PM
Students and teachers nowadays communicate via texting at every level of the education system, including college, medical school, grad school, etc. It's not unusual.

"Thomas Coleman, 33, a former assistant principal at University Neighborhood HS in Manhattan, allegedly sent a female student who had just graduated [emphasis mine] a text message with a picture of male genitals."
So she was no longer a student of his? How does Richard Condon, the special investigator, have jurisdiction?
A [i.e. one] picture of male genitals? The biology books we give our students have fairly explicit pictures and diagrams of male and female genitalia, and that is invariably what the students turn to as soon as they receive their books. We want our students to understand human anatomy and physiology, and that includes reproduction. Many of us, myself included, show an award-winning PBS video with a live human birth. As I tell my students before showing it, what they are about to see is very graphic but not pornographic, and if they don't know the difference they will after they see the film. It captures the students' attention like little else in the course does.

You see! The chareidim were right. If she didn't have a cellphone this wouldn't have happened! :)
Posted by: maven | May 22, 2011 at 11:55 PM
That cellphone records keep track not only of who called whom when, but also the contents of the messages and, if the phone is GPS-enabled, where the sender was, reeks of Big Brother. It is scary, creepy and un-American.

Don't put anything in writing if you are not willing to see it fall into the wrong hands. Unless you are absolutely proud of something, and are willing to defend in public what you wrote, DON'T write it. Wait until you see that person face to face, then tell it to him verbally- maybe by then you will have rethought the matter so you don't regret what you say, either.
Even before the electronic age of computers/e-mails/blogs/texting, we knew this. Some folks just think an electronic message somehow disappears, and they have to learn the hard way that it doesn't. Be careful about e-mails at work on the company computer system; they belong to your boss the moment you hit 'send'.
While I don't like the idea of GPS chips hidden in my stuff for marketers, scammers and spammers to find me, these tracking devices helped save me when my vehicle broke down on a rural road in New ENgland late at night when I was lost. I called 911, and the state police instantly figured out where I was.
Same thing with On-Star in my SUV; saved me in a serious accident.
Maybe the lesson is, like with writing things you're not going to be proud of, don't go someplace you're not going to be proud of.

In the 1970's there was a cop show about a Black female cop named "Get Christie Love." I thought of that when I heard this woman's name.

Does anyone know this woman's maiden name and how old she is?
Posted by: Abracadabra | May 23, 2011 at 09:28 PM
Well, at least she's not an open homosexual because you know that the Torah calls that a Toevah - an Abomination - and for her to be a homosexual or lesbian would be the worst thing possible. The Yeshivish community where she lives would understandably and justifiably ostracize and expel her.
All she did was send some text messages to one of her goiyish female high school school students. And like she said - there was nothing sexual about it - Boruch Hashem.
Anyway, it's not such a big deal. According to the Torah she did nothing wrong. So it was against the rules of her job, so she is suspended for 6 months without pay. Nu - it's no big deal. In the meantime she will have time to catch up on her tehillim and spend the summer in the bungalow colony.
And we can collect tzedaka money for her until she gets her job back because, you know, she is nebuch out of a parnossa. Does anyone know if her husband is still in kollel?
(For all who don't know me - this was a sarcastic post.)
Posted by: Abracadabra | May 23, 2011 at 09:42 PM
abracadabra-the Torah only says that male homosexual relations is a toevah-for women, it says nuttin.-so, i guess its ok.

I always said Orthodox Jews have no business teaching in the public schools. These are people who are in their own world, by and large, and who have no appreciation for anyone but their own kind. They look at goyim as subhuman animalistic creatures, and have no sense of tolerance of universalistic sensibilities. The frum are full of hatred for anyone not like them, which is a fundamental religious outlook that should not be welcomed in a position involving caring for and educating those of many creeds and nationalities. What a shame that they take jobs teaching people they have racist prejudices against, all while collecting union benefits they couldn;t get in a Bais Yaakov.
