Rabbi Sholom Rubashkin, currently serving 27 years in federal prison for for bank, wire and mail fraud along with related crimes, meets with his attorneys and then immediately emails his daughter saying, "Baruch Hashem [thank God] it will be a good keli [vessel] for the goal, which is to vacate and throw out the conviction and I will be free to serve Hashem [God] all of the time!"

I hate Rubashkin as much as the next guy but the truth is I do what he was convicted of all the time and much worse. His crime was one of stupidity. He stuck out like a sore thumb and got caught. 27 years is not right. If stupidity is a crime, he should get 100 years. If it is not he should be home for Pesach.

I am B"H homeless no more thanks to all the wonderful charities and fundraising scams out there for the taking. SMR and I have much in common except that I know the Rebbe is dead and as I said before - the moron got caught. Rubashkin is only guilty of borrowing more money than he was allowed too. He did not steal anything. He did not pay back the bank because the Prosecutors shut him down.

That's absolutely false. He took $1.5 million for himself and stole a total of $26 million.

A loan based on collateral means if for any reason the loan is called in, the collateral is available to the bank if the borrower cannot repay.

Rubashkin grossly and illegally inflated the value of that collateral, which is why the bank lost money.

And that is theft under the laws of all western countries and most other countries, as well. And it is theft under halakha, as well.
