Video Preview: Rubashkin On CNBC
Here's a video preview of Wednesday night's episode of CNBC's American Greed profiling Rabbi Sholom Rubashkin and Agriprocessors.
It airs Wednesday night at 10 pm Eastern Time on CNBC:
Update 7:16 am CST – Here's another preview [Hat Tip: larry.]. Note that the comparison Guy Cook makes is not valid, because the facts of each case are significantly different. Rubashkin obstructed justice, destroyed evidence and refused to cooperate with the government in any way or to make restitution. None of that is true for the other case he mentions. Rubashkin also personally benefited from the money he stole, despite Cook's false claim to the contrary, using $1.5 million to pay his home's mortgage, his insurance, and to buy jewelry and other luxury goods:
Update 5:55 pm CST – Another video preview [Hat Tip: FGBA]:

The frumma trolls will be out in full force attacking NBC's website and comments section.

Ah, such nachas. I guess we may as well accept the fact that the Moshiach is running in the opposite direction. We have to stop protecting these so-called "frum" criminals and start throwing them out of the Jewish community before Hashem finally has enough.

Apologies to Neil Young:
I'm gonna see you
on CNBC
Your bearded face
looking back at me.
I'm gonna see you

Your bearded face
looking back at me.
Nu,they caught you
with the cow next door,
People's money
piled on the floor,
Accusations
that you try to deny,
Revelations
and rumors begin to fly.
Now you think about
reaching out
Maybe get some help
from above.

Bloggers crowd around
your house.
Going through your garbage
like a pack of hounds,
Speculating what they
may find out,
It don't matter now,
you're all washed up.
You wake up in the middle
of the night.
Your tallit is wet
and your face is white,
You tried to make
Agriproc last,
How could something lucrative,
go bad, so fast?
American dream, American dream
American dream, American dream.
Don't know when
things went wrong,
Might have been when you
were young and frum.

ruthie,
No, Shmarya's in the interview! Don't you recognize him from the NYT article? Or maybe you don't click the links on the right of this blog. Anyway, there is no caption beneath him when he speaks ("The only way to make that business work was to exploit workers"), so I don't know in what capacity they're featuring him, but he's gonna be on this show (apparently, unless his parts are cut).

At age 73, Edwin Edwards was sentenced to 10 years and was just sprung from prison at age 83.
Rubashkin has served 2 years and has another 25 years to go. At age 51, he'll be 76 years when released from prison.
Neither received a life sentence.

Whats the punishment for one of the greatest Chilul Hashems in the history of American Jewry ?
Objective people have their opinions.
Orthodox Jewry seems to believe he should be rewarded for his wonderful deeds !

It would be nice, if the Otis Prison Folks had a special session, for all inmates, to watch this broadcast, with mandatory attendance required.

I smell mini-series! First, Rubashkin. Followed by (in no particular order): Madoff, WexTrust, Scott Rothstein, Nevin Shapiro, not to mention the 80 y.o. Monsey lady! Ratings bonanza, I tell ya.

In an Iowa paper, when they did a story on Rubashkin, the article talked about a dirty little secret in that the Tanya regards non-Jews as sub-human and that probably accounted for Rubashkin's treatment of his workers [approximation what was written]
I wonder if this will say anything about the Tanya

They have had a program about Mr.Rothstein. It was very informative. Hopefully this one will do the same.

They also had an hour long devoted to Sholom Weiss. I hadn't heard of him until I stumbled upon that one. Another Chasidishe ganav.

They also had an hour long devoted to Sholom Weiss. I hadn't heard of him until I stumbled upon that one. Another Chasidishe ganav.
He made the FBI's 10 most wanted list in 1999. Known for not cutting his peyot, and an tendency to find company with high-end prostitutes and unable to stay away from a blackjack table. He defrauded an insurance company of $445 million dollars through fraudulent claims. He was present at his hearings but sentenced in abstencia. At the time of his sentencing, for which he did not appear, there was a blackout in Monsey (supposedly unrelated - NOT) and by the time the electricity was back he was on a helicopter to a boat in international waters, which took him to Brazil. He remained there, while his lawyers continued to work on his appeal, somehow receiving payment, until he was forced underground due to international pressure. He had to seek residence among criminal elements. Then in an unrelated diamond smuggling sting in Switzerland he happened to be staying in the apartment that was raided. He was extradited and sentenced to 450 years. Thousands of people lost their life savings when the company went bankrupt. One Lubavitcher living in Miami Beach FL, an orphan to whom he was kind of a godfather while growing up in NY, was asked to sign as a witness once by Weiss on a document whose content he had not read. He felt compelled to "help." For that signature alone he got seven years in the slammer. I'm suprized you never heard this guy's name. It was all over the news during those years.

Didn't remember the name or case but recognized the photo.
When they steal so much, I don't see how they can think they won't get caught. Plus, what the hell do you do with $450 million dollars?

They still have about 24 hours to fix the opening.

Saw a few of the promo videos, but apparently won't get to see the main event because CNBC has different programming for its Asia-Pacific edition.
Still, CNBC can be counted on to carefully take into account the business owner's perspective, as the promo videos do. Don't forget, for the typical CNBC viewer, immigration enforcement is at best an impediment to orderly business, and at worst a crime by the meddling government against hard working businessmen and shareholders.
