Please, don't compare Sholom Rubashkin to either Gilad Shalit or Jonathan Pollard.

We need to everything in our power to free Gilad Shalit.

As for the other two, I know this won't win me points, but I have more sympathy for Sholom Rubashkin than I do for Jonathan Pollard.

Pollard offered to sell military secrets to anyone willing to buy. When no one offered, he gave the secrets to Israel. In the aftermath of his problem, he wrapped himself in his self-righteous Jewish mantle and declared that he was saving Israel and the Orthodox Jewish community bought the shpiel hook, line and sinker. I had Orthodox friends who after college went to work in the government tell me that they believe they were not trusted, passed on promotions, and treated with a hint of disdain and mistrust as a result of Jonathan Pollard.

Even Sholom Rubashkin, who I believe is as guilty as sin, is not as dispicable as Jonathan Pollard.

What is the matter with you people. The problem with Pollard is not that he had to serve time. The problem is that he is presently the longest serving spy in US history. For crimes that are minute compared with other cases such as the Walker brothers who only served four years. Pollard certainly has done nothing to deserve being in prison for the rest of his natural life.

This business of him trying to hawk his information to anyone that would by it is part of the disinformation that was launched to the media by the feds.Rafi Eitan of the pensioner's party admitted to approaching Pollard and being his handler.

The more serious allegations that he was accused of but not tried for such as compromising the identities of operatives in Eastern Europe were admitted to by that mole Henson when he was caught ten years ago.

Pollard helped contain the damage in the manner that he fully cooperated with the authorities. He also agreed to have a closed door trial. The only one of its type in US history. He does not deserve the sentence that he received.

This is incorrect, John Walker is not eligible for parole until 2015 after 30 years of confinement. It is unlikely he will survive to that date since he has stage 4 throat cancer.

Jerry Whitworth, who was sentenced to 365 years, will be eligible for parole in 2048 at the age of 111.

John Walker's son Michael, who had a relatively minor role and agreed to testify in exchange for a reduced sentence, was released from prison on parole in 2000, after 15 years.

None of us know enough about the Pollard case to argue about what damage he did to the U.S.

What we do know is that he had a deal with the Justice department, had cooperated, and at the last minute Caspar Weinberger (no friend of Israel) spoke to the judge in private and the plea bargain was broken and Pollard received his current sentence.

Pollard never cooperated with the United States, and then broke the plea agreement.

The government danced around the plea agreement (the agreement limited what prosecutors could ask for, but did not limit the sentence, and Weinberger was not part of the prosecution team).

And every single person (no matter how friendly to Israel) who has had access to the full Pollard Dossiere has decided he should never be freed.
