Eliyahu Ezagui was convicted of mortgage fraud. He scammed fellow Chabadniks costing many their homes. Sholom Rubashkin is Ezagui's friend and has called on the Crown Heights Chabad Community to rally for Ezagui, and Crown Heights listened.

What about rallying to donate for the people that lost their homes so they can afford somewhere else? The whole idea of donating to criminals is beyond me and the victims get ignored.

Personally, I do think that Abramoff got a raw deal. Morally if not legally the lobbying industry is based on bribery. Abramoff was just a better crook than the rest of them.

When I was in college, a friend told me her grandfather was a gangster. However, he was "rubbed out" before she was born. It was the family secret and she told me in confidence and yet here I am blabbing it on the internet. However my reason for doing so is to illustrate that there once was a time when people admitted their fellow Jews wrong doing and were ashamed of it. Now - not so much.

No question this guy is a crook. But these poor "victims" should spare me their self rightousness. They knew that they were paying under-the-table deposits for these apartments. When Ezagui wasn't able to deliver the deeds because of all the shenanigans he allowed them to move in without paying their balances. When the legal crap hit the fan they jumped on the opportunity to bury him alive in order to end up with a pai up aprtment for about $150,000. If they would have been realistic and offered to settle the finances with the banks at the fair market value of the apartments this whole criminal prosecution could have been avoided.

So in summary, the poor 'victims' ended up with free and clear apartments in crown heights for about $150k, while Ezagui was offered up as a sacraficial lamb.

Ezagui is a scumbag, but the so-called victims need to soul search as well.

Rubashkin has been elevated to sainthood level, and who knows, maybe will be regarded as the next Rebbe ?

Ok, his sentence was quite heavy, but that does not make him a tzaddik, or a martyr.
