I hope that they discuss remorse as an element in seeking rachmones.

It is encouraging to see the "sin'as chin'um" between Lithuanian Jews and Chabad Jews decreasing. I wouldn't have expected an organization such as the Chofetz Chaim Foundation to support a Lubavitcher.

What happened to all those people who claimed that the U.S. government was anti-semetic in their prosecution of SMR? Will they publically apologize to the U.S. government like they're asking the conservative movement to do to SMR? That would be a special touch at this special event.
Posted by: Althelion | June 10, 2010 at 09:06 AM
By doing this, they are defaming the soul of the Chofetz Chaim.
A really serious Chillul HaShem.
Posted by: sage | June 10, 2010 at 09:24 AM
"A really serious Chillul Hashem." I agree. IS this guneff a convicted thief awaiting sentencing?
Posted by: I'm from Missouri | June 10, 2010 at 09:31 AM
YES !!!
Sentence will be handed down on June 22.
My wife and I just came back from a vacation in Missouri.
Great folks out there who are down to earth and have no tolerance for the likes of SMR.
Welcome on-board !!!

I called the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation. They did not organize this thing. Their involvement is limited to the telephone hookup; they will broadcast the meeting on their system so remote listeners can listen in. For my part, that's too much involvement.

To MO,
Yes the man who did not steal a penny from anyone but who inflated the buisness invoices and paying back every single penny to the bank plus intrest, till the day of the raid.
If there was no raid the banks would have still been paid back, unlike the secular Jew pig crook rothenstein who stole from peoples life savings to build his car collection, the man rubashkin to these loans to keep the buisness afloat and pay the guatmalans their salary.
Posted by: Dr. Moe | June 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM
oh rubashkin, he sure observed the laws of ethics lifnim meshurat hadin.
from now on, with the addition of the chofetz chaim foundation to his team, litvish yungerlites too can be gazlonim de facto, de jure, deoraisso and derabbonan!

Yosef ben matya,
who did rubashkin steal from?
Posted by: Dr. Moe | June 10, 2010 at 10:07 AM
Well, he stole from banks, and he stole from his employees by cheating them, Dr. Shmuck. What about all the overtime Sholom and the rest of the gonivim didn't pay?
Plus, his firm declared bankruptcy. So just how did it pay back everyone to the penny, plus interest?
He'll get plenty of donations once he starts doing his time. Sperm donations, right up the ol' Hershey Highway (pun intended).

Hey Dr. Moe. Seems to me that I saw a sign in the blip regarding the sentencing of Rothstein that shows he not only used the money to build his car collection but had a downtown Chabad Centre named for his familuy as well. I guess he made sure that the money given to Chabad was different from the money used for his cars.

I USED to donate to the Heritage Foundation, but will CEASE TODAY. smr, DOES not STAND FOR THE PRINCIPLES OF THE cHOFETZ cHIAM, AND i AM ASHAMED OF WHAT THESE SCALAWAGS ARE DOING.
smr IS NOTHING BUT A 2 BIT CROOK. i HAVE WORKED IN A MEAT PROCESSING PLANT AND HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND WHAT GOES ON, AND WAS THE ONLY WHITE GRINGO WHO SPOKE FLUENT SPANISH.

Again with the shanda; even mentioning the Chofetz Chaim in the same sentence as Rubash-in.
Posted by: yidandahalf | June 10, 2010 at 01:26 PM
Well, he stole from banks,
Really? and how exactly did Rubashkin steal from the banks?
and he stole from his employees by cheating them, Dr. Shmuck. What about all the overtime Sholom and the rest of the gonivim didn't pay?
There was never ever a legal complaint nor a charge nor a conviction on your little complaint on this blog.

There were plenty of allegations SMR didn't pay his workers OT.

There were also allegations that there was a crack house and Rubashkin supplied drugs in the plant, and your point is??!!

Payroll records seized by the feds during the raid show that theft of overtime from workers.

you cannot prove and backup your claim and anything based coming from you is questionable as you have made up stuff before, such as another witness who told Rubashkin about the Minors, but the state had no money to bring him or her to Iowa but they had money to bring people from Guatemala, so anything coming from you is questionable and stays null and void till there is a complaint \ conviction.
Apikoros,
No Iam not a which doctor, and how did Rubashkin steal from a bank? this should be breaking news, that no one knows about!!!

Does a chabad house have to return donations that were obtained from a source who stole the money from others?

Dr. Moe - why do you waste your time? There is preaching to the choir and then there is talking to the wall. You are talking to the wall - these people are not impartial - they've made up their minds al la sinas chinum - first you hate, then you find reasons to hang it on - the reasons don't REALLY matter - they're just convenient after the fact. What's REALLY disgusting is that Scott/Shmarya was a Shabbos guest at Sholom Rubashkin. Even more disgusting is to read what Scott says he believes in and how this site is everything opposite of that - which makes Scott the same and WORSE of what he accuses everyone he blogs about.

Pathetic - for a site that LOVES to point out all of the "evil" in the Orthodox world - instead of celebrating the unity that such a statement represents - you attack it [surprise, surprise]. You remind me of the comment someone recently said about self-hating Jews - "strange bed fellows"

So according to you, because I ate 3 or 4 meals at SMR's over a 6 year period, I owe him? And what I owe him is to lie for him? To cover up his crimes?
Really, you're morally sick. You lack even the most basic understanding of ethics.
Get yourself some help.

The only "crime" Al Capone was convicted of, was tax evasion. So he had a bad accountant, and who declares everything anyway? Yet people have the audacity to call Mr. Capone, zt"l, a gangster! I will dedicate a yeshiva to his blessed memory.

The Chofetz Chaim was known for his extreme views on dinei mamamot and ethics.
He went way out of his way to make sure that his business transactions – including those of his wife in her store – could not in any way be viewed as stealing.
And here we have the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation, started by his descendants, giving support, succor and honor to a man who is convicted of 86 counts of fraud and who has involved himself in many other acts that are viewed as crimes.
You see "unity" and value it above morality, ethics, and halakha.
You're morally sick. You lack the most basic understanding of ethics. And you need help.

Funny how you can accuse me of lying but have absolutely no proof to back it up.
So process this, jerk:
1. You can Google reports of the raid and its aftermath, and you can read the dozens of government documents I've posted over the past 2 years, and you'll see that I'm telling the truth.
2. As for the witnesses, they exist and the Iowa AG knows about them. He made a mistake by not calling them. I doubt the feds will make the same mistake if they decide to pursue civil rights and other charges against Sholom, Heshy, Hosam, and Co.

Al Capone did the United States a great public service. During the time of the idiocy known as Prohibition, Big Al brought beer to a thirsty land.
All the Haredim bring to our land (and to Israel) is a bunch of medieval bullshit.
BTW, Capone's accountant, Jake (Greasy Thumb) Guzik, was a damned good one. Jewish, of course.

I unfortunately have to question your ethics Shmarya. I donated some money to your "on-the-spot coverage" campaign of the Rubashkin trial. Did you even go to the trial? Did you offer to return the money that was donated by people for the sake of your personal presence at the trial?
Remember everybody... We ALL have sinned, stolen and deceived. As much as I admire Shmarya's courage in exposing hareidi corruption in this blog, he has no right to take a self-righteous posture. He DID not follow through on his promise to his donors to attend the trial for "on-the-spot" coverage.

You're an idiot, Moe.
But you are correct. There is no conviction. There also are no charges.
That's because the feds deferred to the state, and the state hasn't brought a case. It's still waiting for Amamra to be extradited.

I specifically said that the money would be used for the equipment needed to travel (a laptop, wireless access, etc.), someone to cover basic blog functions while I'm in court, transportation, and to maintain the blog's normal operation even without travel.
I didn't raise enough money to travel for more than one day. That's it.
So you question my ethics.
Send me a bill.

1) SMR stole from First Bank of St. Louis by committing fraud for which he was convicted. Banks have stock holders and it was their money that was stolen through this fraud.
2) There was a donning and doffing case brought against Agri by 27 plaintiffs who worked for the company. In effect the suit asked for back wages owed for the time it takes to get into their company required gear and the time it takes to remove that gear. There is case law on this involving a suit that went to the Supreme Court which upheld the claim that companies are required to pay workers for this time.
The day after the suit was filed, the lead plaintiff's garage mysteriously burnt to the ground.
Eventually, all 27 plaintiffs withdrew their names from the suit out of fear, and the suit was withdrawn.
Now, which family do we know in Postville has a history of being involved in suspicious fires??? Hmmm, let me guess....

Dr Moe,
Chofetz Chaim was very very careful when it came to money.
Looking at the history of the Rubashkin (many convictions)family they. And even if you claim he did not steal, he did play fast and lose with the law, lying and stuff like that.
it that the type of person Chofetz Chaim foundation should honor?
No, they have lost their moral high ground. As has the whole cheride world.

I wanna learn more about how haredim hook-up with the Hafetz Hayyim. Sounds a mite kinky to me.... like the mound of pubic-like hair that sometimes pops up in a religious book (a la "Not Another Teen Movie") because haredim like to pick their beards and place the disgusting hairs in religious books such as psalters and prayerbooks. I puke almost every time I see this in 770.
When it comes to the pubic hair in the tehillim, Lubavs are pigs! They also do weird shit with their fingernail clippings. Some collect them in little jars for years, while other burn them immediately after clipping in keeping with an old wives tale that clipped fingernails will cause a woman who is preggers to miscarry. )If I were them, I'd just sprinke them in Williamburg for all the Yoeli chicks to step on!) In some yeshivos, you can actually find the students outside burning their little bindles of nail clippings. Presumably, they do this before an au natural communal dip with their fellow menfolk (and leering baalebatim ?) at the smelly local mens miqweh.
But there is little in the haredi world as disgusting as a late Shabbes morning mens miqweh. By mid-day Saturday, when Lubavs are usually up and saying Birchos Hashachar, the mens miqweh is really rank and smelly, grey-green, and there's sometimes a bubbly film of scum floating on the top. This hardly stops the most hasidishe of all, who believe it's mesiras nefesh to take a dip and purify their souls (or more likely their bodies from the illicit nocturnal emission of the previous night's wank).
Oh, the second day of festivals is worse... sometimes you can't even enter the mens miqweh building because its so smelly.
The other disgusting haredi habit I used to hate was putting used toilet paper in a bin next to the toilet rather than flushing it. A number of haredi schools and shuls in Israel adhere to this revolting regimen. My question has always been whether or not they look at (or sniff!) the toilet paper between the wipe and the placement in the external bin.
In all fairness, this may be more of a DIB than a haredi habit. I recall one apartment in Safed that lacked actual plumbing pipes for outgoing waste... the waste product would exit the toilet and by gravity flow along an open channel in the floor until it exited the room in a corner. You could just sit and watch the little brown poops sail along the channel in the floor. Apparently, this variety of waste disposal fixture does not accept toilet paper.
Ever since then, I decided that I would no longer accept moral instruction from people who can't or don't flush their toilet paper. That's why I am not a haredi.

1) SMR stole from First Bank of St. Louis by committing fraud for which he was convicted. Banks have stock holders and it was their money that was stolen through this fraud.
First bank was being paid back every single penny for the loan PLUS interests up on till the day of the Raid and Agri still wanted to continue paying the loan PLUS Interest but the feds did not allow them due to charges that we now find out that was NOT true, cause Sholom was found to be INNOCENT till proven Guilty and he was found to be NOT GUILTY = INNOCENT. So we see that Sholom Rubashkin did NOT steal a Penny, unlike so many secular Jews who steal from other people hard working money for their hookers and car collections and yes they are part the Morris Alan crowd which is the reform and Conservative movement.
2) There was a donning and doffing case brought against Agri by 27 plaintiffs who worked for the company. New stories pop up every single day by the depressed gang of Anti Rubashkin, anything from Prostitution at the plant to having cocaine labs in Heshy office, so it is very hard to believe.
The day after the suit was filed, the lead plaintiff's garage mysteriously burnt to the ground.
Eventually, all 27 plaintiffs withdrew their names from the suit out of fear, and the suit was withdrawn.

Seymour,
I am not familiar with the Chafetz Chiam group or foundation, however it seems to me all they are saying, yes Sholom Rubashkin is guilty of Bank fraud but he does not deserve to sit in prison for so many years compared to the crime he committed, I have never met the Chaftz Chaim and I would think he would also agree in true justice that Sholom should not have a very long prison sentence for inflating his invoices to the bank and was paying back the bank loan till the feds did not allow him to continue paying back the loan.
Nothing wrong.
