Amazing those Lubavitch the way they embrace current culture and technologies. You would not get this from Satmar or Bobov.
Video or song won't make top 10 but it wasn't too bad considering what they had to work with.
Thanks for the post, I enjoyed it.

As something not dedicated to the honor and Glory of G-d, but instead idolizing a convicted criminal the follwing is an apt discription:
"Infernal jingling and bellowing" per the musical standards of J.S. Bach

Oy! Oy! Oy! Oy!
Oy! Oy! Oy! Oy!
Well, don't you know
That's the sound of Shlomo working on the chain ga-a-ang
That's the sound of Shlomo working on the chain gang
All day long he's wailin'
Oy! Oy! Oy! Oy!
Oy! Oy! Oy! Oy!
Well, don't you know
That's the sound of Schlomo working on the chain ga-a-ang
That's the sound of Schlomo working on the chain gang.

Thanks, Effie. I thought that was pretty good.

I particulary liked the heartbreaking wail that produced these amazing lyrics "I wanna remind you of what we're fighting for..or...or...". So moving, rising to a pitiful crescendo of communal pain for Sholom. It tugged at my heartstrings and made me want to march along with the immigrants and later dig deep into my pockets and fork over some money for our boy. Frankly, I don't know how Getzel, for one could have condoned and promoted such shmaltz. I would have expected somethimg else.

I too can write a song about a criminal:
Come and listen to a story 'bout a cat named Juice
Tore through defenses like crap through a goose
Said Tijuana is the place he oughtta go
So he saddled up his Bronco headed off to Mexico

matzav.com "Film producer Wendy Weiner Runge claims that criminal charges brought against her as part of an investigation into alleged abuses of Iowa’s film-tax-credit program may be motivated in part by anti-Semitism."
We nasty Iowa people strike again.

Funny how it sounds so much like these songs!

while I think the singer is the same one as in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umhEoIdKYm8

Maybe this group can gain access to the Federal Prison SMR will go to and sing this thing to him outside of his cell.

Posted by: effie | June 13, 2010 at 01:06 PM
Utter shmalz. But you knew that. It's not unlike the musical accompaniment to any Chabad function, then, now and later.
Posted by: Laurel | June 13, 2010 at 01:34 PM
More like a dirge.
Posted by: Mr. Apikoros | June 13, 2010 at 04:02 PM
On another note, maybe this group can learn "Chopin's Funeral March" and play it in the rear, as SMR is being led to his cell.

Subliminal musical suggestions, from the chord progressions, are "Helpless" (Neil Young) and "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (Bob Dylan). Smart propagandist, this composer.
Personally, I liked the shot of how St. Sholom the Vindicated "Used his own money to support the needy" (at 2:20-2:27), and the shows two bottles of vodka. LMAO!

FGBA-(or one who knows about such tidbits)
What would you 'guess'timate a house like the one in the video (Sholom's home) would be worth in New York?
. . . and they consider this modest ? ? ? ? ?

(My apologies to-CPA)
It's been a long time, been a long year,
I wish they'd all move away from here.
It's been a long time, been a long year,
Tear it down. Load it up & ship it on out of here.

When will these 'believers' realize they will not be taken seriously if they diminish the integrity of those who were, in fact, persecuted for their religious affiliation. I find the inclusion of a photo of a Nazi war camp to be appalling & offensive.

This is a very nice and fitting song.
Posted by: Dr Moe | June 13, 2010 at 09:31 PM
Just a thought . . .
-Yet another instance of (rather pleasing) music dwarfed by poor, meaningless lyrics. :(
In other words, if this song were a record, it would warp.

Hey Effie! A+++ for your tune!
Posted by: Hometown Postville | June 14, 2010 at 07:51 AM
If I were an SMR supporter, I would say they did a pretty good job of sanctifying their martyr! But since I'm not, I have to say their virtues are misguided!

Effie,
Great song.
The Luba melody completely whitewashes Rubaskin's misdeeds. As a CEO, the buck literally stops with him. He is not an innocent in any of the proceedings that took place. He would have fared far better by saying Viduy before the Judge.
