Today was entertained the first part of the Extradition Hearing of Jorge Torres Puello, the Haiti Missionary adviser at the Request of the United States of America.

Jorge Torres Puello arrived at 9:45am at the hearing wearing a Kippa or Yalmulka and his Talit Katan "fringes".

At soon as the supreme court justices convene he was called by the President Judge Hugo Valencia and was told to take off his Kippa that he was not at a Church, Jorge Torres Puello, respectfully refused to comply with the supreme court Justice and the Judge said, "add to the record that he refuses to take of that thing in the head".

The Prosecutor in representation of the United States of America Gisela Cueto on behalf of the United States, stated to the Judge, "Your Honor you don't have to let this person wear that "thing" in court, all you have to do is order one of the Police officers to forcibly take it off", we don't have to accommodate special treatment for no one even Jews".

At which point Mr. Torres lawyer Samuel Genao made references to the UN Charter, and various treatises signed by the Dominican Republic and reminded to the Court that religious intolerance was both Illegal and immoral and worst when coming from the highest court in the land.

Mr. Torres Puello felt like he was being brought before the Holy Inquisition (may Hashem avenge our blood) and made it clear to the court that any violation to his religious belief will not be tolerated by him and that he was just going to walk out.

This actions by the Dominican Government at the request of United States violates the rights of a jew to live in peace and it shows the anti semitism of the dominican court system.

We request to any one who loves Hashem to denounce this treatment and the proof is in the court's records.

Again, the Puello people seem to be stretching the truth. The previous post by Mr Genao depicts Ms. Gisela Cueto, the official who called for Mr. Puello's yarmulka to be forcibly removed, as a United States official.

According to most news accounts, Ms. Cueto is a Dominican official in charge of extraditions. Had she been a US Justice Dept official, I would be one among many calling for her head.

The Puello people attribute to Ms. Cueto the patently racist statement, "we don't have to accommodate special treatment for no one even Jews." If Ms Cueto actualy said this, certainly an apology is in order. But Puello and his advocates have a history of making false and misleading statements, so it is entirely reasonable to discount pretty much everything they have to say.

It would be an appropriate gesture for the United States, as instigator of the extradition proceedings, to ask the Dominicans to accommodate Mr. Puello's religious practices and beliefs to the same extent that he would be provided for in a United States courtroom or prison.

Justice prevails in Iowa.

Time for some of dat Mountain Dew (if they let it in into the pokey).

This is a serious indictment of the federal court system and the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, which are in effect instruments of oppression, under the thumbscrews of which few citizens -- even the innocent -- can escape once targeted.

Now, somebody in charge should be coming to the realisation that the criminal courts are not the proper venue to address systemic social, economic and demographic problems by selecting and prosecuting scapegoats.

In all fairness to the prosecutors, they are perhaps the sole agency of government with the power to do anything in the face of institutional inertia and the logjam of vested interests in bed with their political bedfellows. Still, Postville was a textbook example of how government should not act. There was not a single issue at Agriprocessors that could not have been resolved peaceably, over time, through the regulatory process without need for black-booted hysterics.

In the state case, all that need have been done was for the state to have presented the names of the child workers and they would have been instantly dismissed, and much money would have been saved by all.

As the immigration problem, the only solution for the US Southern Border is diplomatic, not legal: Mexico must be held responsible for border incursions that emanate from its territory. The United States should enunciate this policy together with a framework of sanctions that should include withdrawal from Free Trade Agreements, and a ban on remittances from the United States to Mexico.

I guarantee that once those provisions are put into place, Mexico and the full force of its military will become cooperative partners in helping maintain the security of the US southern border. Any other course would mean the collapse of the Mexican state.

The state failed to prove that Rubashkin either knew and/or that he intentionally employed minors at Agri. The state veered so far off from the charges, it was ridiculous.
