No Rubashkin Trial Today
According to the live blog of Jeff Reinertz of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, the trial is canceled for today. It may resume tomorrow:
Sholom's wife said he had a bite or something on his arms from last week. Apparently it got worse over the weekend. She doesn't know where he is.
Court attendant said no court today.
Jens Krogstad of the Des Moines Register blogs more details:
Rubashkin hospitalized over weekend
by Jens Krogstad • Des Moines Register
9:18 a.m., Waterloo, Ia. — The family of Sholom Rubashkin said he was hospitalized over the weekend in Cedar Rapids with a skin infection on his arm.
His wife, Leah Rubashkin, said he complained last week of a bite, but didn’t know how it originated. His family said they thought the condition wasn’t serious.
Over the weekend, he received an intravenous antibiotic and a round of oral antibiotics, she said. On Sunday, he complained about the rash again, and he was kept overnight at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. His attorneys and family are now having trouble finding him.
“They kept him overnight, and now we don’t know where he is,” Leah Rubashkin said.
The judge and attorneys are in chambers now discussing the issue. Court is adjourned for today and will resume tomorrow morning.
Check back for more updates as they become available.
UPDATE: They found Rubashkin. Here are the details from Jens Krogstad and the Des Moines Register Crimes and Courts blog:
10:30 a.m., Waterloo, Ia. — Had a chance to chat with his family for a few more minutes after the initial confusion this morning, and we now have a more detailed version of what happened.
Sholom Rubashkin remains at Mercy Hospital this morning with a skin infection of unknown origin. His family said they don’t believe his condition to be serious.
Court is canceled today, and scheduled to resume tomorrow morning.
Rubashkin’s rash first appeared two weeks ago during pre-trial hearings and jury selection, his family said.
Doctors prescribed him oral antibiotics last week, but he woke up Sunday morning with his arm red, hot and swollen, his wife Leah Rubashkin said.
Staff at Linn County jail transported him to Mercy Hospital, she said, where they kept him overnight and administered intravenous antibiotics.
This morning, neither his attorneys nor his family could initially locate him because of medical privacy laws. Attorneys still were not allowed to meet with him because of privacy laws, even after they located him at Mercy Hospital, his wife said.
Around 10 a.m., Black Hawk County District Associate Judge Nathan Callahan issued an order that allowed Rubashkin’s attorneys to meet with their client.
With Rubashkin located and access granted to him, his family and counsel left the courtroom around 10:15 a.m.
Is it possible a Brown Recluse got him? It would be wonderful. Or perhaps he has an STD that is manifesting itself on his arms? That would also be good news. How is it that his wife, Urea Rubash-in doesn't know where he is? Sham Wow is off the radar. Entirely bizarre.

Does the hospital serve food that's kosher enough?
Maybe Sham Wow escaped, like Chief did in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

He got treatment for a bite, yet his underage employees couldn't get treatment for chemical burns?

""""He got treatment for a bite, yet his underage employees couldn't get treatment for chemical burns?""""
What about the crushed fingers and toes of his slave employees??
How about that poor woman that got cancer and lost insurance because ol Rubashkin did not forward the medical insurance payment??
Oh I get it now
They are not human because the Tanya says so

The bite might a rash from when sholom rubashkin was dragged on the cement floors of the prison when he was denied his religous rights? Iam not a fan of lawsuits but seems a pattern of physical harm to sholom rubashkin.

"he complained last week of a bite, but didn't know how it originated."
how, then, did he know it was a bite?
Posted by: Bill | May 17, 2010 at 10:00 AM
can the gov find him???
Posted by: fakewood | May 17, 2010 at 10:01 AM
if he didn't know how it originated, then, by definition, he didn't know whether it was a bite or not....
Posted by: Bill | May 17, 2010 at 10:06 AM
Probably part of an intricate black hat plot. Get him to the hospital where it is easier to orchestrate a jail break. A quick dash through the north woods, hide out in remote cabins, private plane to Israel. Remember you saw it here first!
The resulting manhunt will give his followers the ability to cry "racial profiling" and anti semetism.

"How is it that his wife, Urea Rubash-in doesn't know where he is?"
They won't let him use a phone and they won't release information when they are transporting people for security reasons.

Maybe he is allergic to Tefillin
Posted by: nachos | May 17, 2010 at 10:27 AM
Good Grief, what next. A question though, Are the Iowa tax payers footing the bill for this stay in the hospital? And a side note even though the Mayor says things are getting better in Postville, think again. Pick-ups being stolen(!), windows being broken out in downtown and "people!!!" still oweing lots of money to business(es) in the area. Same old S---!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: concerned citizen | May 17, 2010 at 10:28 AM
Maybe he escaped and is fleeing the state in a stolen vehicle. Perhaps, the vehicle in question is the 'missing truck' owned by Mayor Leigh Rekow. :)
Posted by: AGRI-vated Angel | May 17, 2010 at 10:29 AM
LOL!!! Are you kidding me????
Wasn't there a post last week stating from Mayor that Postville is rebounding with many new residents and how the outlook was so promising for our town??? Wonder how he feels now??
I think that vehicle probably picked up the infectious Rubbish and is fleeing to the nearest airport. LOL!!
Maybe we'll have a new editorial in the paper this week, ya think!!

A couple of more days delay due to this infection, then Shavuous, and so the trial gets delayed by another week.

"Sholem "Sham Wow" Rubash-in, referred to by his family as a "Giant of a Man" Felled by Unidentified Insect Bite". The man who oversaw the cruel treatment of immigrant laborers and who managed to confine hundreds of thousands of animals in hydraulic pens while tearing out their throats, hosing them down, and simultaneously electrically prodding their faces, denying rudimentary medical care to undocumented workers, bilking uncounted millions fraudulently, IS LAID LOW BY A BITE AND IT NOW INCOMMUNICADO.

Sometimes one insect can administer more justice than all the attorneys, judges, and juries have done thus far.

Please, let the guy alone. He's suffering enough being in prison (the worst experience that a person can go through).... Just wish him well and get on with it.
While I realize that this blog's readers have not committed crimes such as SMR has been convicted of, we are all in danger of finding ourselves in the horrific position of being put into prison for some offense that we didn't even know was against the law.
Again, don't hypocritically gloat over SMR's "fall", just pray that God has mercy on him, all of the people who were damaged by his offenses, and yourself. One never knows the scale or timing of Divine punishment

He is were he should be!! He is a liar, thief, and a two faced SOB! The people of Postville should be allowed to construct a Gallows, and hang him in a public execution, on the main street of Postville.!!!!!!!!! After given his last meal of some good old Iowa pork chops. I'll even cook them up, for him, for free. We should should have a street dace afterwards, that very Saturday night. Party down! Ya!!!!

Mr. Haman:
The death penalty for bank fraud? How about Rekow? Will you build a gallow for him also?
How about people in Postville that knew what was going on, but did nothing because their properties were going up in value?
Did you personally know there were illegal aliens and if you did, what did you do about it?

He is not kidding.
Are you a potential felon?
With these vague federal statutes, the ordinary activities of any given American could land him or her in prison. Consider a few hypothetical examples; then consider the real-life horror stories. "Typical" federal felonies.

The Good People of Postville have been complaining, for the past 15 years about the illegal aliens. Rekow is one of many reasons the illegals were allowed to stay! You are full of BULL on property values going up. Just look at all the for sale signs here today! Yes I knew hundreds upon hundreds illegal aliens had taken over Postville, so did everyone in the country! I made many many calls to ICE, reporting them, and I am very happy to say that my calls, and information assisted ICE with the Legal Raid!! Thank You!

cellulitis occuring from an insect bite or other reason (if that is the situation) IS something people can be treated with IV antibiotics in a hospital setting for. This situation is minor but I wish some staff, nursing assistants in assisted living housing or nursing homes or the public had better training in recognising signs of sepsis from infections. People can be brought to emergency departments with severe sepsis and accompanying confusion in some situations. Instead of channeling so much negativity towards someone why not use the situation as a chance to learn more recognising when medical treatment is needed. /The time spent bringing items to the Postville Food shelf, etc. in 2008 was time I did not spend communicating as frequently as I would have with my elderly parents living far away, and I did not catch a situation one of them died suddenly from.(not an infection) This might have happened without the time spent working extra shifts to donate money to St. Bridgets, bringing things to the fall temporary food bank at Multicultural Center. It traumatised my neices to have their grandmother die suddenly the day they were flying to visit grandparents, six weeks after loosing their house to an electrical fire. // I do not agree with the treatment of many underage workers, number of hours worked, but it WAS a no-win situation where some needed to help their families pay for the trip to the USA, or for living expenses for families in Guatemala or Postville. Ron W. must have had an understanding of this. They did, out of that need, lie when obtaining employment.

For all of you who are Jewish including Shamarya eat the fruits you planted. What can you expect from a real Anti-Semite if he/she sees how Jewish people write about other Jew's.
Some self hating Jews in here will say that Rubashking is causing anti-smeitisim,maybe. but the above fantasy is not because of Rubashkin it is because there is an outlet where rage against Jews can be ranted in a "Jewish" way. so why should a real Anti-Semite hold back.
Is it allowed to say that this is real anti-semitic writings?
Posted by: Cheskel | May 17, 2010 at 02:38 PM
Sham Wow has sepsis and is in the worst position a person could possibly be in according to a couple of iluis posting above. The only place the abomination Rubash-in could have sepsis in would be his Pre-frontal cortex and he is certainly not in the worst place he could be. If he doesn't get a grip on recognizing what the rest of the world considers reality, he may be approaching that place, however.

Now values are weak, but houses were selling for record prices during Agri's heyday. I am glad that you called and reported the situation.
I have a question for you that I just don't get. Rekow was a big part of the problem. We agree on that. How did the guy keep on getting elected?
Cheskel: In your fantasy world, reporting the news causes antisemitism and not the actual harm to people that Shalom did? Notice how the faks guy only wanted to string up Shalom. He never directed his anger at the community.
Cheskel, how should "The Facks man" have responded when Shalom tried to make the claim that Postville is just like Nazi occupied Germany?
Posted by: nachos | May 17, 2010 at 02:51 PM
[How did the guy keep on getting elected?]
The Jewish vote tipped the scale in Leigh's favor. Had they not voted, Mel Cook would have won by an estimated 50 votes. They really rallied for Leigh. IMO,this is neither a good thing nor a bad thing. It just is what is.
I'll be back shortly, I think I just saw Sholom drive by in in Leigh's truck. I've got to check this out!

If the Rubashkin's would have never came to Postville, Postville would never ever have been on the Google maps or Google earth and would have despaired together with Iowa turkey, only cause of Agri, people stayed in town and more people came to Postiville, the young people generally tend to leave the smaller Villages like Postville.

Why did the antisemite judge allow the family access to SMR in the antisemite hospital where they could visit him being treated by antisemite doctors while being guarded by antisemite guards? PETA and the unions must be losing their choke hold on the war on shechita.

the rubashkins are playing the game of 'faking' some medical condition so that the bastard goes to a medical center instead of jail . they know all the tricks .
john gotti stayed 30 years in a private hospital room , in a comfortable bed in a hospital instead of jail . his lawyer did
get him the luxury of the hospital being attended 24h /7 .
