40 Arrested As Haredim Protest In Jaffa – Again
Haredi protests in Jaffa resume; 40 arrested
Graves causing riots again as haredim demonstrate in Jaffa against construction work they say is desecrating ancient tombs
Eli Senyor • Ynet
Ultra-orthodox demonstrations in Jaffa resumed on Monday as dozens of haredi protesters gathered on Yeffet Street to demonstrate against construction works they say were damaging graves in the area. After refusing to comply with police's requests to disperse, some 40 protesters were detained.
The day before, haredim protested against the construction work in Jaffa, in concurrence with demonstrations in Ashkelon and Jerusalem against the removal of ancient tombs from the Barzilai Medical Center complex.
On Monday, haredim arrived in Jaffa with organized transport once again and gathered on Yeffet Street, adjacent to the construction site. The protesters called to stop the construction and said it was desecrating the graves.
Yiftach District Police deployed with force and warned protesters against holding an unlawful assembly. They began making arrests shortly after, when one of the protesters tried to intercept a tractor working on the site.
"We will not have people take the law into their own hands," said sources at the Tel Aviv Ditrict Police. "The protestors were arrested and will be questioned. After that we'll decide how to act against them."
On Sunday, police arrested 27 haredim for rioting in Jaffa, three of which were brought in front of a judge for a remand hearing on Monday morning – because they refused to identify themselves.
Monday morning it was revealed that damage from the riots carried out by members of the Eda Haharedit Sunday were valued at NIS 1 million (about $270,000).
A Ynet investigation revealed that the municipal coffers will bear the burden of the protesters' vandalism, which included damage to garbage bins, roads, vehicles, traffic lights, and street lights.
When I was still Jewish the most common argument I heard for following halacha was self control.

The Haredi revisionist view of Jewish history is sickening. Their penchant for violence is especially disturbing. I think the Israeli government ought to consider deporting the Haredi to any country or deserted island that will accept them. They should be treated as terrorists in every respect; if they break the law, lock them up and throw away the key . . .

I wonder if the Ministry of Tourism can spin the haredi violence into a desireable attrasction for visitors.
"Come to Israel - Walk through the streets of Jerusalem. Climb up Masada. See the haredim go apeshit in the streets."

I presume you were Reform or Recon. Ortho, and many C, would say that the main argument has to have something to do with, you know, G-d.

I didn't fit into a mold then and I don't fit into a mold now.

So I assume you are not now. What is the motivation for coming to this web site. Is it to bash Jews?

For entertainment.

I keep thinking of Rabbi Barretta. "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime." Lock them up. Throw away the key. They never will be missed.

The charedim are split on this. Some are against it:

The charedi crazies have been around forever. I know they were trying to recruit black hats who fit the mold way back in the 70's. It's just that now they are becoming the majority.
I think they've become emboldened by the success of the ayatollahs who used to be considered rabble rousing terrorists and are now dealt with as politicians. So in a weird way, the fact that the charedi nuts are becoming more powerful is the fault of the countries who excused this behavior when antisemites did it.
There is no solution for Israel. It's gotten out of control and to stop it they would need to have a civil war. This is the best thing to happen to Obama in a while. The nuts will get bolder and bolder until Obama can point to something really crazy and get world opinion against Israel. Then Israel will either bend to his demands or be up against the "global community".
It's where we Jews always fall down. We can't establish unity. From as far back as our history goes, it's always been one faction against another.

Solution for Haredi rioters: Have hot female cop babes flash 'em some T&A. Haredim go scampering, crying "tsneeyoss, tsneeyoos." End of problem.

Frankly Harold, the Haredi violence is an embarrassment to all Jews and hardly is in keeping with the Yom Tov holiday spirit. But again, these religious morons desecrate Shabbat with their weekly violence, why should we be surprised they have no regard for the other moral and ethical precepts of our Torah?
Let's send them back to Poland and Russia--where they all belong.

The United States goverment can intervene by listing the Eida Haredit and Neturai Karta as terrorist organizations, banning transfering money to their institutions and removing any tax exempt status their affiliates may have.
