Don't assume. I am NOT and never was a vocal supporter of Grossman. I did NOT make phone calls on his behalf and I did NOT send emails. He is NOT my hero and I do NOT approve of the Jewish community's response to this situation.
I am also NOT a Hasid.

I just don't get any joy from a Jew being executed. You seem ready to drink lchayim over the execution of a Jew. His actions are indefensible however his lack of normal upbringing and IQ of 77 certainly helped propel him in the direction of a life of crime. As a Jew it pains me that he had to be executed. However I accept the verdict as he was tried fairly and justice was served.

Re: Grossman - I'd take the 77 IQ with a grain of salt -- that is the result of one test when he was admitted to prison. A low IQ score when out of sync with other IQ scores will be discounted when behavioral and emotional issues get in the way of functioning. I would call entering prison an emotional issue. Where are the results of his other tests when he was in school? Odd that those haven't been released. People don't hide evidence when it is favorable to them. The criteria for mental retardation are IQ 69 and below, adaptive functioning, and the deficiencies must be present before age 18.

As to his adaptive functioning, when he held jobs he was praised by his supervisors and was well liked by them. He had numerous girlfriends and friends. He certainly was the leader of the two that night. And he knew what he was doing as to covering up and disposing of evidence after the murder. Had a driver's license. He certainly wasn't the smartest person, I'm sure he had learning disabilities which they also do not mention, but he was no where close to being mentally retarded. Again, he may not have been the sharpest person, but he was nowhere close to being mentally retarded.

Where do I get all this information? From the case law, the statutes, and his pretrial psych evaluation that Aleph did *not* post on their website.

All these petitions and comments on his behalf on the internet - they were all lies. His supporters thought by their shear own will they could make them true. And then they bombard the governor and other state officials with their craziness. I have never seen anything like that in my life.

The victim's 79 year old mother and her sister complained that people began harassing her at home:

"Park's relatives said that as the campaign reached a fever pitch in recent days, people harassed them by telephone. "I do feel that organization owes our family an apology for the invasion of our privacy," Betsy Park said."

I'm not sure which organization they are referring to.

It is astonishing how the organized orthodox establishment has turned into one big crime operation. Defending the worst scum, as long as they are religious Jews, is their new project.
I guess so many of them are now in prison, or heading to prison, that it behooves Agudah/Chabad/etc. to organize all efforts to get all Jewish criminals released, sentences reduced, and to turn prisons into Chabad Houses.

It simply does not occur to them that American laws also apply to religious Jews. It also does not occur to them that the American legal system does not extend extra favors or excuses for orthodox Jews.

Reading the 300+ comments on VIN about the Grossman case leaves one shocked at the misplaced sympathy and the communal sociopathy of the orthodox nowadays.

Get off your high horse. Of those close to 300 comments many are repeat commenters and replies to those who commented on their comments. Additionally there are quite a few sane comments in there. Honestly even if there are 200 or 300 people who feel that Grossman should not have been executed it still gives you no right to lump all Orthodox Jews together and paint with broad strokes. What occurred is that somehow some Rabbis who know Grossman I'm guessing the Aleph institute convincingly sold a bunch of half truths to influential Rabbis and it gathered steam. Most people who called and emailed were given false facts and did not bother looking into what really happened. They figured if all these organizations (who should have honestly looked at the facts) say that we should call and its a mitzvah then we need to mobilize and do what we can. The Rabbis were duped, Alan Dershowitz was duped (I don't know how) and the community at large was duped.

If his attys thought he even had a chance at an Atkins claim they would have filed for one. Contrary to what people claim, his attys were very good. Almost all prisoners on death row are guilty. The attys are only trying to delay execution for as long as they can. That they were able to obtain another 26 years of life for their client is a success. One of his trial attys claimed he could have done a better job. However, the appellate court disagreed with him. This is also called falling on one's sword. The attys that do capital cases are true believers.

This included official spokesmen of well-established ortho organizations. Their sheep immediately ran with it, and Grossman became a hero to all the black hatted crowd.
I hold every adult to be ultimately responsible for his/her own actions. If someone was fooled into believing something, because they believe their crooked leaders are infallible, then they deserve to be taken to task, both for their belief in those leaders as well as not being interested in examining a potential other side of the issue.

Alan Dershowitz? He never met a camera or microphone he didn't fall in love with.
