Haredi Body Snatching In Jerusalem
BREAKING: Jerusalem: Body Abducted to Prevent Autopsy
Yeshiel Spira • Yeshiva World News8:13PM IL: (UPDATES BELOW) Details are a bit sketchy as the event is still ongoing. YWN-Israel has received first-hand information from the scene regarding a police hunt taking place at this time in the Bucharin/Geula area, for the body of a 25-year-old female.
About an hour ago, MDA dispatched a paramedic unit to an abandoned building on Rabeinu Gershon Street in Bucharin. They pronounced the female dead. It was first reported that police suspected foul play, but in actuality, the policeman on the scene stated he did not think an autopsy would be performed.
It must be added that a patrol car was dispatched and the team arrived, a male and female officer. As the car arrived, the area was filling with curiosity seekers, all appearing chareidi in their outer garments. The policeman seems to have instructed his female partner to remain in the vehicle, perhaps using good judgment, avoiding a conflict with the frum residents by the presence of the female officer.
It appears the policeman did not really have a handle on what was taking place and before he knew it, about 15 males entered the ground floor of the abandoned structure where the body was. While one or two of the chareidim pushed the policeman into the corner, they occupied him for enough time for the others to make off with the body, in the name of preventing an autopsy. Reports that the body was transported to Shamgar Funeral Home appear to be inaccurate. The body was taken from the abandoned building.
It also appears that the body of the female is not someone who was known locally, but nevertheless, those involved appear to have believed due to the victim’s young age an autopsy was imminent, prompting them to make off with the corpse. At present, there is a considerable police presence in the area, plainclothes and undercover units as the search for the body and the perpetrators continues.
It appears police are a bit more than startled to just how quickly these residents are informed of the area goings-on and how quickly they mobilize on a stormy night.
While the policewoman was locked in the vehicle, the crowd managed to slash the vehicles tires, preventing that car from going after the body-snatchers.
YWN-Israel has just received a report that MDA has dispatched an ambulance to a home were someone believes seeing “people carrying an unconscious body”. Police suspect this may be the body.
This is somewhat similar to a body-snatching report in Ashdod, in which police were standing guard over the room where the body was and when they entered, they learned that people cut the metal window bars and made off with the body. In that case, the body was not recovered.
UPDATE 8:47PM IL: It appears police reinforcements are arriving as police prepare to break into a yeshiva where they believed the body is.
YWN-Israel reminds readers that details provided appear accurate at this time, as the situation unfolds, and changes are likely once the true facts in the case are learned. YWN-Israel will continue to provide coverage for this breaking story.

why they are trying to prevent investigation of a possible murder and capture of a murderer?

The Israeli judicial system need to really lay down the law on anybody who attempts let alone successfully steal any corpse hindering police investigation. These idiots need to be put in their place once and for all. The Israeli police and judges cannot afford to keep letting this happen. It is very inethical, selfish, and inconsiderate for the Haredim to continuously behave this way toward the police who are trying to do their jobs!!!

I can't quite figure out if this a case of body snatching or body hiding. All that I know is that I hope the body finds its way to her family so she can get a proper burial. It is up to the family as to how to deal with the circumstances of her death.

There are no more crimes between Jews and Jews since The Abishter said it' Ok to do whatever so it's all good.

@ critical minyan, that might be funny if there wasn’t a unburied “Mais Mitzvah” floating around. Any follow up as to if the body was properly taken care of?

There's a possible homicide and these "religious" goons are hindering a forensic investigation. They can uphold the law or they can go back to whatever stinkhole in Europe their parents and grandparents came crawling out of.

It's time for the government to crack down on these extremists. They are a law unto themselves and expect society to kowtow to their rules and finance their lifestyles. Perhaps the answer is a 3 state solution.

i think that jay is on to something, a three state solution.
this and other events like it are a presage to the inevitable future events that will occur if the state does not do something to stop the fundamentalist fanatics.
this demographic is growing at an alarming rate, and is made up of people who believe that they should not work, they should not contribute, they should do whatever need be done to end the secular state and replace it with an authoritarian religious regime, based on theocratic principles.
they have more children than the non religious and the modernist religious jews, and it has already gotten to the point where the government will capitulate to the will of the rabbis, and as we saw in the iranian revolution, this is the first step in the full replacement of a secular state with a religious one.
it is incumbent upon us, as free thinkers, to do whatever we can to stop this before the corrupted, corroded yoke of 'charedism' is forcibly placed upon our necks. we must act before the wild eyed masses decide that bloodshed is needed to enforce their will.
we must not stand silent in the cold, dark shadow of fanaticism.
navonim unite.

The last time there were 2 Jewish states, both disappeared in short order. Consigning the chareidim to their own state is tempting, but divided we fall.

really what if the woman was murdered, the murderer would be free to kill again. An autopsy can find out and maybe give clues to the killers
is that ok
Posted by: seymour | February 03, 2010 at 05:08 PM
maybe the police should shoot a few of these guys, and maybe one or two would die.
When they ask for justice, say sorry no autopsy can be done, so we do not know who or which officer killed that person.
I think that would end this nonsense.

Just as the economists in freakonomics identified and attributed a strong correlation between the drop in crime in America in the last decade to the supreme court decision in Roe v. Wade,
so too,
must there be a greater, positive awareness within our social circles to the acceptability (subject to rabbinic approval, of course) of the use of contraceptive methods.
This could greatly reduce the strains our communities face due to overpopulation that result in the inability to sustain a productive and functional society.
I believe that this is a topic that most of our community leaders would agree is a necessary one to raise awareness about (especially once 'Pru u'rivu' has been fulfilled), and hope that it can only lead to positive responses and discussion.

You cant trust the secular Israeli government. They dont give a hoot about their own kidnapped soldiers like Shalit. When a little boy named Yossele Shumacher was missing because his grandfather wanted to raise him frum, the Israeli mossad spent 2 and a half years searching for this little boy across the globe staking out every chareidi kindergarten. To stop a jew from being raised Jewish they will do everything. These Israeli leaders are no lovers of Jews especially what they did to jews in gush katif.

To the chareidim in Jerusalem, just bury the body and let the Israeli anti Jewish police go on a wild goosechase.

Haredim return snatched body to police
Group of ultra-Orhtodox men agrees to give back corpse of woman found in Mea Shearim in return for promise from police to avoid autopsy
Efrat Weiss Latest Update: 02.03.10, 23:27 / Israel News
A body of a woman snatched by a group of ultra-Orthodox men on Wednesday evening has been returned to the Jerusalem Police. The corpse was found in an abandoned building in the capital's Mea Shearim neighborhood and was snatched by several haredim, most likely due to their objection to an autopsy.
At around 7:30 pm, the police and Magen David Adom emergency services received a report about a woman in her 20s found in an abandoned building in the haredi neighborhood. An MDA ambulance arrived in the area and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the woman, but were forced to proclaim her dead.
A police car was dispatched to the area as well, and an initial investigation revealed that the death was likely not the result of a criminal incident.
But the affair did not end there. Dozens of haredim arrived in the area and, according to the police, began assaulting the policemen, caused damage to their car, grabbed the body and escaped. Additional police forces were dispatched to the area to help locate the corpse.
Three hours later, with the help of the ZAKA rescue unit, the body was transferred to a policeman's house, where it was examined in order to ensure that the death was not caused by a criminal act.
The police reached an understanding with the Eda Haredit organization that the corpse would not undergo an autopsy.
"ZAKA commander in Jerusalem Bentzi Oring arrived to handle the body, but was also beaten and pushed by those violent people, although these actions contradict the Halacha and respect of the dead," ZAKA spokesman Moti Bukjin told Ynet.
ZAKA officials said that Oring used his connections with the police and among extreme elements in the haredi sector in order to reach an arrangement with the body snatchers.
"He arrived with a ZAKA ambulance to the hideout and took the body. According to the arrangement, as long as there are no suspicions of a criminal act, the body will not undergo an autopsy and will be buried as early as tonight," Bukjin said, adding that the organization was shocked by the violent struggle.
'Stretcher march of 30 haredim'
Shalom Galil, an MDA paramedic, told Ynet that "it all began with a cause of a 25-year-old unconscious woman. We arrived in the area, tried to resuscitate her, but eventually proclaimed her dead… We waited for a doctor to prepare a death certificate, when a large crowd of haredim began gathering outside."
"We didn't say anything to them, but they found out that it was a woman and were concerned about an autopsy. The atmosphere heated up and I informed the policeman inside about the situation and asked him to call for help, but the help was delayed. In the meantime, ZAKA arrived to take the body outside," he said.
What happened next was defined by the paramedic as "surrealistic".
"I did not see the body snatched from the policeman. He said he was hit in the face, pushed down and that the corpse was snatched on a stretcher. I looked outside and saw a stretcher march of 30 haredim running with a covered body. They shouted, 'The daughters of Israel will not be deserted.'"
According to the paramedic, "It was a well planned operation."
This is not the first time that a death in the capital leads to a conflict between the police and the haredi community. In August, dozens of ultra-Orhtodox men rioted following a man's murder and tried to prevent the removal of the body for autopsy purposes.
The haredim hurled stones and iron at the police, who responded with shock grenades. Eight policemen and one citizen were lightly injured, and a police car and two motorcycles were damaged.
