Chabad Rabbi: Des Moines Register Misquoted Me

Rabbi Shea Hecht says he never said Rubashkin turned down plea deal.

Hecht also claims that, despite the Des Moines Register report, there was no meeting in Brooklyn between Rubashkin, his attorneys, and Hecht's committee.

The Chabad party line is that Rubashkin is a saint, totally innocent, and his arrest and trial are all anti-semitism, PETA, unions, etc.

Hecht blundered and revealed that there was some attempt to consider a plea bargain. Such a revelation implies admitting wrongdoing by SMR. This makes Hecht look like a traitor and an infidel to the rest of Chabad.

Now Hecht has no choice but to deny, deny, deny in order to save his own name in the community.

In these interview segments, Shea Hecht comes across as a shameless propagandist who consistently completely fails to address the key issues of this bank fraud case as summarized by the following news account: "Prosecutors alleged during the trial that Rubashkin falsified sales records to defraud the plant's St. Louis lender. The fake invoices and shipping papers created the illusion of sales that never happened and allowed Rubashkin to borrow more out of a $35 million credit line.

"Rubashkin also allegedly diverted customer payments into the wrong bank account, when the money should have gone directly to the lender. Prosecution witnesses testified that he used the money for personal expenses and to keep the plant running."
