Madoff Prison Buddies With Mob Boss And Jonathan Pollard
Pizza cooked by a child molester - a snapshot of Madoff's prison life
The Associated Press
NEW YORK - Fallen financier Bernard Madoff has plunged from his Manhattan penthouse to the lower bunk of a cell he shares with a drug offender at a federal prison, where he eats pizza cooked by a child molester and hangs around with a mob boss and a convicted spy, according to legal papers filed Tuesday. The snapshot of Madoff's prison life - and a contrasting picture of a former high-flying life laced with cocaine and salacious parties - are in a legal complaint filed by Burlingame, California-based lawyer Joseph Cotchett, who represents about a dozen victims of Madoff's massive investment Ponzi scheme. Cotchett interviewed Madoff in July at the Butner Federal Correctional Complex near Raleigh, North Carolina.
The lawyer found the mastermind of one of history's largest financial frauds now reduced to nighttime walks around a prison track for fun, according to the new filing. It builds on one investor's existing civil case against various Madoff associates and financial institutions; the suit claims they were complicit in Madoff's fraud or should have stopped it. Madoff has consistently said he acted alone.
When not rubbing elbows with drug and sex offenders, Madoff spends time with Carmine Persico, a reputed Colombo crime family boss, and Jonathan Pollard, an American convicted of selling military secrets to Israel more than two decades ago, according to the lawsuit.
Madoff's lawyer, Ira Sorkin, declined to discuss his client's prison life or the lawsuit's allegations about shenanigans in his former office. Telephones for spokespeople for the Federal Bureau of Prisons rang unanswered Tuesday night; the agency's records do show Pollard and Persico are housed at Butner.
The lawsuit goes to length to compare Madoff's prison existence with his
deluxe former life, including photos of his yacht and homes and claims that he ran an office rife with drug use and sexual escapades.
According to the allegations - their source isn't specified - Madoff deployed an employee to get drugs from 1975 to 2003, fueling an office so cocaine-laden insiders dubbed it the North Pole. Office parties featured topless waitresses, employee affairs were common and Madoff kept a list of his favorite pretty masseuses in his personal phone book, the lawsuit said, claiming investors' money helped pay for it all.
Employees described it as a wild, fast-talking, drug-using office culture, said the complaint. It says its various allegations are based in part on interviews with other unnamed people besides Madoff.
Madoff, 71, is serving a 150-year sentence after pleading guilty in March to a scheme that authorities say cost thousands of investors at least $13 billion. The lawsuit doesn't detail his talk with Cotchett. The lawyer previously said the one-time Nasdaq market chairman repeatedly apologized for the harm he caused victims.
Why must they attack Jonathan Pollard by throwing his name in there? He hasn't suffered enough? He needs to be "associated" with Madoff as if he wants anything to do with him? How can Pollard "pal around" with anyone in jail considering how much time he spends in solitary confinement? Enough is enough and this lawyer is shameful.

Madoff and Pollard have high status/respect in prison.

Maybe one day someone will tell us exactly what Pollard did that earned him the longest sentence of any spy who didn't spy on an enemy.
Marc Rich, who traded with the enemy (Iran), was pardoned.

If Pollard was in solitary confinement for a long period, it's his own fault. All these max security prisons use behavior modification.

"If Pollard was in solitary confinement for a long period, it's his own fault. All these max security prisons use behavior modification. "
Sorry but that's not true. You just made that up based on assumption. He has been "punished" over and over again for the same crime he was convicted for.

I make nothing up. My opinion is based on my knowledge of state prisons. As far as how federal super max prisons run, I base my knowledge on expert testimony, presented by the defense.

ah-pee-chorus: Interesting article. I also find no basis for claims that he has been treated differently than other prisoners.

right. and not only did he inadvertantly put u.s. operatives at risk, but he stained the reputation and job prospects of all proud jewish american patriots wishing to enter many intelligence related fields.
and i always ask my friends who support him (while knowing little of the case facts) if they heard that mahmoud yassaan, an american with egyptian family ties had passed info about israeli defense he obtained while working for the DOD to egypt, what would they like him to receive as a sentence.
and if it were purely ideological, that would be one thing, but pollard took large sums of money, and attempted to do business with other countries as well.

ah-pee-chorus, do not confuse Jonathan Pollard with Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen. These are different people who committed different crimes, and it is a distortion to obfuscate and confuse their crimes. It is convenient for those who want Pollard locked up for ever to make up such lies, but a rational human being cannot believe them when judging the facts.
C Weinberger on his deathbed said that they made too big a deal out of Pollard. Clinton offered to Bibi to free him. If it was true that he did what your article accuses, that would likely not be discussed. And no, he was not convicted of any such crime. Not treason, and not what your polemic article wrongly accuses.

How about from Rafi Eitan, Pollard's Israeli handler:
http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2006/030206.htm
He denies these ridiculous accusations. People who throw around the word "traitor" like "Seymour Hirsh" need their head examined because he has psychological problems, as does anyone who complains about "stained the reputation and job prospects of all proud jewish american patriots wishing to enter many intelligence related fields. "
Many Jews have entered such fields.

i guess he was helping israel by selling info to south africa and attempting to sell to pakistan!!1
he is a low life piece of garbage who did what he did for money and fun and got what was coming to him. then he becomes all religious when it seems that will help him. keep rotting...

C Weinberger on his deathbed said that they made too big a deal out of Pollard.
Right. Because you were there with him, nobody? LOL
The man was 88 y/o and died of pneumonia. The chances he did any talking about anything at all is zero to none.
Posted by: effie | October 22, 2009 at 09:49 PM
The people who deny Pollard was a traitor are the ones who need their heads examined. What planet do you live on, nobody?
Posted by: effie | October 22, 2009 at 09:53 PM
Pollard's actions resulted im the deaths of double agents working for the US. Real simple, do not spy on your own country for any reason.

we see that except for the first few commentators on this story everybody in talking about pollard and nobody is talking about madoff who will never get out of jail until moshiach comes. it is amazing to see how many zionists want to see pollard rot in jail for the rest of his life. i am extremely anti-zionist and want to see pollard freed.
once i was arrested in the kennewick, washington walmart parking lot while davening shacharis outside of my car. i was suspected of being an arab terrorist suicide bomber. i told the FBI AGENT WHO CAME FROM spokane to interview me about jonathan pollard and the FBI agent told me that he had never heard of pollard.
there is SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT IF THEY DONT EVEN TELL THEIR FBI AGENTS ABOUT POLLARD AND WE DEMAND TO KNOW WHAT THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT IS HIDING!
