Exclusive: Pro-Rubashkin Ad Placed In Des Moines Register That Irked Judge Tied To Levi Balkany, Grandson Of Aaron Rubashkin

Address of Balkany's company, Rite Care Medical Products, used for the ad placed under the name "Friends of Sholom Rubashkin."

Levi Balkany is the son of Rabbi Milton Yehoshua Balkany, Sholom  M.  Rubashkin's brother-in-law. Levi Balkany's mother is Sholom M. Rubashkin's older sister.

[UPDATE 1:05 pm 10-2-09 – As I reported last year but forgot to mention here, Levi Balkany is a member of Chabad's "The Committee of Concerned Anash for Pidyon Shevuyim," also known as the Rubashkin Pidyon Shvuyim Fund, the fund that pays for Rubashkin's legal defense.  (Thanks are due to the Iowa Independent and FGBA for pointing this out.)]

The Gazette reported earlier tonight that a newspaper ad placed by "Friends of Sholom Rubashkin" created a bit of a stir in Federal court today and with Judge Linda Reade, the courts Chief Justice.

…Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Deegan told the court he was concerned about the ad because it’s a paid ad in a newspaper by “friends” out of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the defense team has connections with people out of New York who are providing financial support for Rubushkin.…

Chief Judge Linda Reade said if she finds out the ad is also in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, “I’m going to hit the roof.”…

It is unclear the ad ran in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Iowa Independent is now [10-2-09] reporting the Des Moines Register itself is distributed in Sioux Falls:

Although the committee’s efforts have been prominent in Jewish circles, the half-page ad in Iowa is one of the few times the group has sought to sway overall public sentiment regarding the case. Weekday reach of The Des Moines Register into the Sioux Falls area is roughly 3,500 households, according to a company spokesperson.

The Sioux Falls metro area has a population of about 235,000. The actual reach of the Register in Sioux Falls is probably close to 18,000 people when the actual numbers of people in households are counted along with pass down readership, which means the ad reached a significant portion of the Sioux Falls population, perhaps as much as 8%.

The Gazette story noted the address given on the ad doesn't match up with the Rubashkin Defense Fund run by Chabad or a similar fund run by Yated Ne'eman's editor Rabbi Pinchos Lipschitz.

Ritecare Medical Products has a website. Its domain registration information was updated tonight at 8:58 EDT. No names are listed for contact even though proper procedure is to list a contact person. But its address is listed as 266 47th Street, Brooklyn, NY:

It is possible this ad is an attempt to taint the jury pool in the hopes of eventually getting a mistrial.

OK, I think the fudge factor is 6. Enter 272 47th St Brooklyn, NY 11220. It is going to be one of those buildings in front of you,possible slightly to the right. Some or all of that string of buildings must be Ritecare's since the local phone directory also yields an address of 254. Golden Key and Safe is at 268. The gray building across the street with the RT on it is at 255. The dairy restaurant is at 274.

It is a block of small industrial businesses. Does no seem any depend on retail walk-in trade.

The street view really does not reveal more than that the Rite companies are a small business, and that they probably deliver most of their products to customers.

This is yet another example, with the Rubashkins at the helm, proclaiming/demonstrating their obsession with anti-Semitism as an excuse to justify their own wrongdoings.

We can start off with the first line of this ad:

"30 million illegals are here in the US."

Wrong. The correct figure is somewhere around 11 million. The number has probably declined in the past year because the poor economy has sharply curtailed illegal immigration.
