Judge Keeps Haredi Rioter In Jail

Shtreimel 2 Court afraid haredi might flee Israel using his American passport.

Court rules ultra-Orthodox Jerusalem resident arrested for stoning police officers during Karta parking lot protest to remain in custody for duration of trial

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended the remand of Maimon Miller, an ultra-Orthodox resident of the city who was arrested after throwing stones at police officer during a protest against the opening of the Karta parking lot in the city on Shabbat.

Miller is charged will attempted aggravated assault of an officer and illegal gathering during last Saturday's protest.

During the hearing, the prosecution's representative, attorney Anat Greenbaum said miller should be held throughout the duration of his legal proceedings since there was concern he may attempt to flee the country with his American passport if he is released on bail.

The State further argued that Miller poses a real threat, and should therefore remain in custody

"In light of the fact that the offence was committed due to ideological reasons, and in light of the fact that we are in the midst of a tense period with demonstrations, and there is real concern that if Miller is release he will take part in the coming demonstrations as well, he should be kept in custody," Greenbaum said.

Judge Irit Cohen ruled in favor of the prosecution and notices by heads of the haredi community condemning and forbidding displays of violence against police officer during the Shabbat protests were not enough to soften the level of danger Miller poses.

The judge noted that a similar notice was published last week, but that it failed to stop the violence and riots that broke out in Saturday's protests.

The judge stressed that there was concern that Miller's acts may be repeated in the violent protests that have been ongoing for the past 14 weeks.

A judge with some back bone.... now get
after the rest of the religious Jewish
terrorists.

ok u make fun of the satmar spelling skills but this article makes no sense "Miller is charged will attempted aggravated assault of an officer and illegal gathering during last Saturday's protest".

Joe, the point of the (somewhat immature) bit about the Satmar protesters was that they went to the time and expense of ordering a misspelled sign.

In this case Shmarya is quoting an article which someone else wrote. He isn't responsible for editing the copy.

What's going on here?

Makes sense to me.
