JAY STREET — A Bar Mitzvah tutor convicted of sexually abusing two boys will be sentenced Wednesday in Kings County Supreme Court.

Yona Weinberg, a 31-year-old social worker from Flatbush, was convicted in June of numerous counts of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Weinberg was originally charged with sexually abusing four male students. He was acquitted of numerous charges, including the lone felony count.

The alleged victims, who were 12, 13 and 14 years old, were Weinberg’s students at the Khal Beth Abraham synagogue, where Weinberg gave Bar Mitzvah lessons. At least one alleged victim was Weinberg’s client at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services, where Weinberg was a social worker.

If he had been convicted of all crimes, Weinberg faced up to seven years in prison. He now faces up to two years in prison when he is sentenced before Justice Gustin Reichbach.

The minimum sentence for child molestation should be ten years without parole. Two years is a joke for a serial molester like Weinberg. He'll be out in no time and pose a threat to other children.

i agree, steve. you can receive a far longer sentence for selling drugs to a willing adult. here he permanently scarred 4 boys that we know of and probably many more and will serve less than 2 years with his whole life ahead of him to prey on others.
