what is the matter with these ignorant neighbors and idiotic fox reporters?
don't they know the laws don't apply to frum yidden and yeshivas?
Posted by: ah-pee-chorus | August 16, 2009 at 12:15 AM
whats with all those jewish mosrim neighbors, complaining on the air? THEY are the ones at fault here. may a group of great and holy rabbis condemn these collaborators of the antisemites who aired this story, put them in chairem, and make their families tear kriah.

Maybe the people who live within earshot of the wedding hall should have an open invitation to come to the reception dinner of any or every wedding that takes place there

These frumbags have a "rebbe" in that miserable stinking piece of cocksucking shit Noach Dear. That's why it goes on.
Posted by: Mr. Apikoros | August 16, 2009 at 06:22 AM
BTW, in case you're wondering who Noach Dear is, he is now a civil judge in the State of New York. Before, he was the Taxi and Limosine Commissioner. Cab medallions in NYC cost upwards of $300,000, but there's an alternative -- unlicensed "dollar vans" why ply the area of Boro Park. However, if you want to operate a "dollar van" without getting 100 tickets every day, be prepared to shmear, big time.
Although Dear is no longer a City Councilman (that was his job before he was made head of the TLC), he still has lots of influence as an old-style "fixer."

Where does a beautiful tradition ends and public nuisance begins?
Posted by: Ben | August 16, 2009 at 07:36 AM
the neighbours are probably pleased when it's the 3 weeks or the omer.
Posted by: R | August 16, 2009 at 08:34 AM
I still don't get who would want a wedding on a pavement. How on earth do they get away with this sort of behaviour? The state should close down the whole building as it's being used for illegal purposes. So sadly the school loses out, but it's the fault of the people who own the place.
Posted by: R | August 16, 2009 at 08:38 AM
A google search reveals that complaints have been going on for over 6 months. I'm not sure why it remains open.
Posted by: effie | August 16, 2009 at 09:10 AM
Years ago, and I do mean years, if not decades, the papers carried a story about the biggest hassidic wedding NYC had ever seen. It was held in Madison Square Garden. I vaguely remember that 50,000 people attended. However, I haven't found anything on google.
They had photos. MSG has to be the ugliest place to hold a wedding ever. And the bride and groom were some of the ugliest people I've ever seen. Worse, they both looked absolutely miserable.
Anybody remember this?

What does Dov Hikind say? What about Simcha Felder? Every neighbor should sue. Demand money damages and punitive damages. And forget tickets, let the city bring tow trucks.
Posted by: David Willig | August 16, 2009 at 09:31 AM
The tow trucks are being used to tow cars still parked at 3:57 PM in a "No Parking 4-7 zone." I have seen this several times now on Amsterdam Avenue in the 40's and 50's.
Bloomberg is as big a pig as Simcha Felder, Dov Hikind, and Noach Dear, the latter of whom is "redeeming himself" as a judge by telling collection agencies who appear in his court to go to hell. (Does Dear take a little vig from the debtor first? Do bears, uh, defecate in the woods?)

In the full segment on fox (which I don't know if this video clip captures all of it), they interview also a frum Jew (non hassidish) who is driving in his car with another fellow. They ask him how he feels and he says I understand the residents, this is not right, if I was living here, with all that noise I'd be angry too. He did not defend the chassidim. There are actually several frum non-hassidish Jews interviewed and they lament the actions of the hasidic sect..... Who gives them the right to do this, they say. Exactly. Who does? So why doesn't law enforcement get on that.

Vilde Wedding (apologies to Billy Avodah Zara):
Hey little chosid what have you done
Hey little chosid who's the noisy one
Hey little chosid who's your super rebbe
Hey little chosid park where'er you want
Hey little chosid, shadchan!
Its a nice day for noise again
Its a nice day for a vilde wedding
Its a nice day for noise again.
Hey little chosid what have you done
Hey little chosid who's the holy one
You've made the noise for so long (so long)
You flaunt the laws for so long (so long)
They let you go for so long
Its a nice day to harass goyim (come on)
Its a nice day for a vilde wedding
Its a nice day to harass goyim.
(pick it up)
Take me back home
There is nothin' fair in this oylam
There is nothin' honest in this oylam
And there's corruption, mamish, in this oylam
And there's nothin' tahor in this oylam
Look for something left in this oylam
Start up again
Oy vey!
Its a nice day for a vilde wedding
Its a nice day to start up again.
Its a nice day for a vilde wedding
Its a nice day to start up again

I am mad as hell. This story really clearly shows what is wrong with Orthodox Judaism.
I think we should carefully watch the video
and indemnify the perpetrators and this chilul hashem and beat the crap out of them .
Yes you heard me right, we ned to beat that yiddin who did an act that is so horrible. that maybe even a death penalty is aloowed of course one would need to ask a rov.
Yes those people who spoke to fox news those people who called the building department, must be punished.
We can tolerate, child molesters, crooks, fraudsters, arrogant behavior. child abuse, wife beaters that is OK.
Mosser, even if its is to benifiet other frum Jews must be elemanated from our mist

i do remember a wedding at nassau coliseum for the grandson of the satmar rebbe years back. i think it was about 25000 people.

APC: Next time they have such a big shindig, let's crash! They'll never notice us in the crowd & we'll get free food.
Posted by: Yochanan Lavie | August 16, 2009 at 12:05 PM
Effie, I think it was the Munkacher wedding. Maybe it was held at the Jacob Javits Center. I do remember that incredible statistic about the number of people attending. I'll do some googling.
Posted by: WoolSilkCotton | August 16, 2009 at 12:28 PM
At the time, I was still wearing a black hat. Word was that you could just show up.
Posted by: WoolSilkCotton | August 16, 2009 at 12:29 PM
Is it not a mitzvah to rejoice with bride and groom? Are they not merely facilitating the doing of a mitzvah? Why should those people not count themselves among the lucky who have the opportunity to perform such a mitzvah without even leaving the comfort of their own neighborhood, or in some cases their own home!
Posted by: Ryan P | August 16, 2009 at 12:40 PM
yl: i'm with you. can you lend me some knee hi white socks?
Posted by: ah-pee-chorus | August 16, 2009 at 12:41 PM
WoolSilkCotton : i think it was the MUNCHAUSEN wedding, and they didn't need to serve any food. they wanted to starve all the guests.
Posted by: ah-pee-chorus | August 16, 2009 at 12:43 PM
If I am correct the building we are talking about was part of a property that satmer bought from the city. It was a public school and they bought it for 1.00 so than create a school.
I would not be surprised that they never registered the hall since that might be in violation of the $1.00 sale, and cause ven greater problem for them.
I do not know how to research and see if my theory is correct or wrong.

great article, WSC.

Thanks, everybody!
Bigger than any wedding I ever attended. I was unable to find photos. I'll never forget the miserable look on the young bride's face. Nightline covered it but the video is not available online. I really thought it was held at MSG because I remember the floor and the rising seats. Having lived in NYC for only a brief time, I wasn't familiar with the other locations. Oh, well, the memory plays funny tricks.
Posted by: effie | August 16, 2009 at 05:17 PM
They were probably teenagers and cousins!
Posted by: WoolSilkCotton | August 16, 2009 at 05:30 PM
I would be pissed too if I was forced to tolerate that much noise and lack of intervention on both political and legal scales.
I thought I had it bad enough with my neighbors!
Posted by: Alana | August 16, 2009 at 06:03 PM
They were probably teenagers and cousins!
According to the articles, they were. She was 18, he was 20. And they were 4th cousins.

effie, I think WoolSilkCotton was referencing Arrested Development.

I have a solution if the neighbors would agree
I will bring power speakers and when ever they have a wedding outside I will blast ac/dc ramstein, metallica, Pantera, motor head as loud as I can sometimes one must fight fire with fire
