NO VOTE: Sex Abuse Bill Will Have To Wait For Special Session

Or, the bill may come to a vote when the regularly scheduled State Assembly session continues in January.

Vote unlikely on sex abuse bill Catholic Church opposes
NY Newsday

As the state Assembly wrapped up its regular session Tuesday, it appeared unlikely that controversial child sex abuse bill would be voted on, advocates and officials said.

The bill, sponsored by Assemb. Margaret Markey (D- Maspeth) and opposed by the Catholic Church, would drop the statute of limitations on child sex abuse cases for victims 53 years and younger. Previously her bill included no age limit.

She also recently amended it to explicitly include public as well as private institutions.

Assemb. Vito Lopez (D-Brooklyn), who is sponsoring a competing bill that does not lift the statute of limitations, said he did not expect either bill to pass the legislature this session, or even this year. "The likelihood of a law occurring this year is highly unlikely," he said.

Lonnie Soury, a spokesman for Survivors for Justice, a group that supports Markey's bill, also said it didn't appear the legislation would be taken up last night. But "we are exceedingly confident that in the special session" that could be called in Albany later this year "this important legislation to protect children will be passed" in both houses, Soury said.

Adding to the uncertainty, Markey was not in Albany Monday. Her office did not say why.

Word out to the Catholic Church and its lackey, the Agudath Yishmoel: there will be hell to pay for this opposition of yours. We're all fed up with your deceit, your selfishness, your contempt for the victims you created. You raped little boys before and you're raping them again by refusing them justice via their day in court.

There is every excuse for the "Church", since noone takes them seriously as a religion anymore. Not with thousands of perverts for priests. Not with loudmouth "Bishops" threatening politicians who might have voted for Markey's bill. Not with decades of coverups by the highest echelons of that "faith." There is not a single speck of piety, integrity, honesty or sincerity in that religion---if ever there was any.

But the Aguda? To ally with such reshaim in such a blatant manner? To "vigorously" oppose the last chance of victims to have closure, and catch heretofore unidentified pedophiles, and give victims back their dignity? To do all that, and claim it is "Daas Toireh", when nothing could possibly be further from the truth, is beyond shameful. It is, instead, the intentional turning one's back on one's own, revictimizing the vulnerable all over again, raping the same little boy but now as an adult. Heaven doesn't cry when these terrible actions are done by our leaders: Heaven hits us hard, very hard, to teach us we have no idea what we're doing, that we are scorning the Torah's imperatives of seeking and rigorously pursuing justice, that we are hurting our most vulnerable.

This is the state of our "leadership": they allign themselves with our enemies for purely financial purposes, claiming that their dens of pedophilia are the "very lifeblood" of their community. Woe unto us for such "leaders" as these, who are as financially biased in these matters as a person could be, since they own those dens of pedophilia and quake in their boots at the thought of actually paying up for their sins.

So you refuse to pay in this world, is that it? Then there is another world where the records will be made straight. Do you really prefer that, you "leaders"?

The problem, Shmuel, is the Omerta culture of both the Catholic Church and Agudath. The answer is vigorously prosecuting those who obstruct justice by intimidating victims from coming forward, contemporaneously, when a reasonable case can be made for prosecution.

Raising the statute of limitations, allowing people to sue for alleged crimes which occured 50 years ago, will do nothing but enrich slip-and-fall shyster lawyers.

I propose that the NYPD and others use good 'ol decoy tactics, kids wearing wires, etc. to catch these perps in the act.

A reader who is having difficulties leaving comments because of another in a very long series of TypePad bugs writes:I am not sure why you have such a problem with lawyers, Mister A. But that aside, suing will do much more than enrich lawyers. It will expose, through discovery, the actions of those who intimidated and covered up the abuse for decades and force them, through financial devastation or the threat of future claims, to change their ways. Of course, arresting the perps is the priority, but the situation we have on our hands involves many perpetrators who are outside the criminal SOL. Lawyers play a vital role in exposing them and their enablers, often taking cases on contingency, and should be commended, rather than insulted, for their work. And no, I am not a lawyer.

Jewish table tennis champion and former City banker Gary Tendler, 36, of Brentwood, Essex, has been jailed for using his position in the sport to groom a 15-year-old girl for sex.

But last Friday at Snaresbrook Crown Court, he was convicted of six charges of sexual activity with a child and jailed for 12 months. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

Judge Inigo Bing said the girl was particularly vulnerable when Tendler abused her as she was mourning the death of her mother. When the four-month period of abuse ended, she was so depressed that she twice attempted to overdose on painkillers.

The girl told the court she felt she had been “used like a sex object” after being bombarded with lewd text messages and made to perform sex acts.

Tendler was convicted at an earlier hearing of possessing indecent images of a child after asking the girl to email him nude pictures of herself.

He denied the charges and claimed he did not know the girl was only 15.

During a trip to London’s West End, he plied the youngster with alcohol and molested her in a restaurant toilet.

Police found 12 photographs of the girl posing naked or in her underwear on his computer.

Sex offender’s appeal rejected
From The Jewish Chronicle

(Excerpts)
A convicted sex offender who fled Israel before facing jail had his extradition appeal rejected in the High Court today, despite claiming that returning to Israel would leave him at risk from being nuked by Iran .

Orthodox Jew, Nachman Natal Stal, fled Israel in May 2006 after being found guilty in a Tel Aviv-Jaffa court of sodomy and indecent assault of a minor, relating to an incident in his car in Tel Aviv in 1998.

The married father-of-nine had been in hiding in Stamford Hill until he was recaptured by British Police last May while changing a tyre on the A40 in west London .

Let's take the case of Paula Jones, who was in her early 20's when she was allegedly "abused" by Bill Clinton, then governor of Arkansas.

Paula Jones, as we all know, sued Clinton on the last day before the 3-year statute of limitations came into being. We also all know, or should know, that this was brought entirely because of politics.

When depositions were taken, all the plaintiffs were able to show was that Clinton had sex with Monica Lewinsky, which somehow came up even though it was entirely irrelevant to whether Jones was sexually harassed by Clinton, as the Lewinsky affair was totally voluntary.

The case was dismissed by a judge (the same that later suspended Clinton's law license for lying about Monica). Total lack of evidence.

After Lewinsky became a household word, Clinton's insurance company paid off Jones, just over $800,000 of which about $600,000 went to the lawyers and various hangers-on. Jones made a few hundred thousand more posing for Playboy, and got herself an entire body makeover, which she needed. (Why Clinton would have wanted sex with this dog is another thing that never made sense to me; at least Lewinsky is pretty.)

The moral of the story is that in cases like this, insurance companies like to pay off, even if the cases have no merit. (Most of the time, the payoff will be on the order of $10,000, but most of the time, the defendant isn't President of the USA.) When said priest, rabbi, or minister applies for a job in a different parish, for whatever reason, this lawsuit will follow him around, guilty or not.

And this case was filed within three years. Think of what would happen if it's 30.

Sure, Vito Lopez is perfectly content if HIS bill never gets voted on. It's obvious the only reason he presented it was to offset the Markey bill. He and his buddies in the Church would like to keep the status quo. They think that they can stifle the victims forever. Well, they are dead wrong! We're in this for the long haul. However long it takes to expose those molesters and to bring justice to their victims, we are willing to wait. This "issue" is not going away any time soon, Vito, CD Zwiebel, Perlow, etc. The Child Victims Act WILL become law as will the fingerprinting bill. It's just a question of when.

BILL DONAHUE RELEASED THIS STATEMENT TODAY:

Right now it looks like this badly conceived legislation is dead in the water. But were it to pass eventually, I renew my pledge today to spend whatever it takes to alert the residents of New York State of their right to sue the public schools if they were ever sexually abused by one of its employees (provided they meet the conditions outlined in the bill).

Some have questioned my motive. Let me end the suspense: I am fed up with unscrupulous lawyers and their well-greased professional victims’ groups seeking to plunder the Catholic Church. Now that public institutions are finally included in the Markey bill, it is only just that potential claimants be informed of their rights. And guess what? A reality check has already taken place. Opposing the Markey bill are the New York State School Boards Association, the New York State Council of School Superintendents, and other civic groups.

Here’s more. An AP story today says 700 public school teachers in New York City are being paid full salaries to sit around doing such things as yoga and playing Scrabble while their cases are being investigated. The accusations include sexual abuse.

Still more. Today’s New York Daily News has a story about a teacher’s aide who was busted for molesting a first grader; the 6-year old girl is thought to be the third victim of the same employee. And so what have they done to him? He’s been reassigned to a desk job.

And people wonder why the Catholic League is pulling out all the stops. Believe me, we will never yield on our pledge.

BELIEVE ME BILL, WE WILL NEVER YIELD EITHER! WE WILL NEVER YIELD TO YOU AND TO THE MOLESTERS YOU ARE PROTECTING! WE WILL NEVER YIELD TO YOU OR TO THE CHURCH THAT CHOOSES TO PROTECT VIOLENT CRIMINALS INSTEAD OF CHILDREN! WE WILL NEVER YIELD TO YOUR CORRUPTION!

Hear, hear, Steve. God bless you with good health. Let's take the fight to the evil ones!

It's time to recruit American citizens to help us. Most Americans have no idea the Catholic Church has caused so much damage and has so much power.

We need this stuff in front pages of newspapers, not buried in religious sections where no one reads.

... Clinton's insurance company paid off Jones, just over $800,000 of which about $600,000 went to the lawyers and various hangers-on.

Wow, I didn't realize that lawyers take such a huge chunk of the award. The lack of the passing of the bill will make for many unhappy lawyers. Well, there are always ambulances to chase after.

That's what Jones said. I think in this case, there was the entire Kenneth Starr retinue which had to be paid off as well.

The reason, in this case, why Clinton's insurance even paid a dime, was because the company believed that given the tenor of the times, and the Lewinsky scandal and failed impeachment of Slick Willie, that Jones might have been able to prevail upon appeal.

This whole episode, although wonderfully entertaining, was a terrible blight upon American jurisprudence and the rule of law. I vote Republican more often than not, but I voted the straight Democratic ticket in 1998.

However these are cases of adults that should have known better.

Clergy abuse were children. In the RCC's case many were pedo priests who sodomized children, forcibly. Mental illness begins. The traumatized child will lose complete childhood and adulthood. The most violent cases will hold the child in a trauma until their 40's 50's 60's and more. The worst trauma is wakening up to realize a life never lived. These are just cases and deserve being heard in courts.

These pedos had many victims so proving the case becomes better than DNA.
