A Warning About Civility
Argue with facts, not ad hominem attacks.
"Barney Fairy" instead of Barney Frank, "homo," etc. are simply not acceptable forms of discourse.
Neither are nearly a dozen other similar attacks hurled at people who comment here.
Issues can be discussed and even argued over without name-calling and sleazy insinuations.
Either all ad hominem attacks stop now or I start banning those who hurl them.
You've been warned.
Barney Fairy"
Any relation to Jim Fairey, former major league baseball player?

Steve - good reference - I believe he was on the ol' Montreal Expos.

Shmarya, only one person here needed this thread.
You have issued these warnings to him dozens of times.
So, what does a guy really have to do to get himself thrown off this website?
If you ban ANYONE here before you ban Bunker, you will lose all respect.

You should ban Ad Homina Homina Homina attacks instead.
That Ralph Kramden with his threats of domestic violence. ( Bang. Zoom. Straight to the moon, Alice)
Terrible.

I am shocked, shocked, to find insults being hurled on a website of Jews arguing Jewish topics.
Dr. Dave, good one!

Shmarya - Will strive to comply - look forward to seeing thie enforced.
--Shmarya, only one person here needed this thread.--
I'm afraid I have to disagree.

If some one says "2+2=5" and I call them a bozo, would I be banned?

Sources: The Jewish Observer Set to Close
Wednesday May 13, 2009 5:31 PM - One Comment
jewish-observerSources report that The Jewish Observer will be shutting down its operation after over four decades of publishing. Published by Agudas Yisroel of America, the magazine has struggled in recent years, with dwindling readership and increasing costs. Published since 1963, it was printed nine months a year; the January and February issues were combined, and there were no issues in July or August. The magazine’s website contains PDF copies of portions of some previous issues dating back to 2002.
The Jewish Observer was founded by Dr. Ernst L. Bodenheimer and Rabbi Moshe Sherer. For the last many year, it was been led by its esteemed editor, Rabbi Nisson Wolpin.
Its editorial board members were Rabbi Joseph Elias, Rabbi Abba Brudny, Reb Yoseph Friedenson, Rabbi Yisroel Meir Kirzner, Rabbi Nosson Shcerman and Professor Aaron Twerski.
Sources say that a consensus was reached by the Agudah, led by the Rosh Agudas Yisroel, Rav Yaakov Perlow, the Novominsker Rebbe, that the time has come to close the magazine.

Just curious why simply shortening a multi-syllable word like homosexual is verboten.
Any explanation?
And old Barney has been called worse on the floor of the US Senate by a former Majority Leader. To be fair you would also have to ban Liberals from trashing politicians to the Right.

Please.
Either behave or go away.

Archie:
It's sort of like the difference between calling kugel a "Jewish food" and calling it "Jew food."
Now cut this babe-in-the-woods crap. :-)

My, aren't we overly sensitive to gay references? Any special reason you'd like to share, Brokeback cowboy?
Posted by: Yoni | May 14, 2009 at 05:21 AM
Who could argue that Barney Frank does not invite ridicule upon himself with the manner in which he conducts himself? The man is, at best, laughable. How the people of the Massachusetts district in which he represents can keep automatically voting for this guy every 2 years, I'll never know.
Posted by: itchiemayer | May 14, 2009 at 07:47 AM
Orthodox ridicule, hatred, and fear of gay people is quite fascinating.
Posted by: WoolSilkCotton | May 14, 2009 at 08:03 AM
There are reasons to dislike Barney Frank that have nothing to do with his love of the cock.
Posted by: Audrey the Liberal | May 14, 2009 at 09:36 AM
I don't recall Barney Frank being the point of discussion, ever. Archie just brings him up when he wants to inject a gay slur into a wholly different conversation.
Posted by: ML | May 14, 2009 at 09:45 AM
You mean Barney Frank eats Capons?
Posted by: MisterApikoros | May 14, 2009 at 11:03 AM
Barney Frank has a cape on? I didn't know he was a super hero.
Posted by: Yochanan Lavie | May 14, 2009 at 12:35 PM
ML is a liar.
Barney F was relevant since he engineered the mortgage crisis by forcing banks to give handouts to minorities. I pointed this out after Shmarya falsely placed all the blame on Republicans for the crisis.

This warning has really done wonders.

WoolSilky: Since I am relatively new to the blog, has Mr. Shmayra Rosenberg previously issued warning about the racist porqueria (crap in Spanish, don't bother to look it up you know who) that certain people post?
Posted by: libby in the hood | May 14, 2009 at 07:31 PM
Many, many times. The warnings are meaningless. Bunker mocks them, then goes right back to business as usual. Shmarya does nothing.
This website, in only a few days, has turned into porqueria.

WSC - The blog you describe without Archie was not quite the camelot you described.
I find the blog more entertaining with Archibald around. Hey, I'm a big free speech guy, what can I say. It's Shmarya's blog, and I expressed my support for him when he banned Archie, and I support him in his reinstatement of Archie.
Libby, I remember you here when I first started many months ago. Yet, you call yourself "relatively new".
Posted by: itchiemayer | May 14, 2009 at 10:05 PM
I support Archie's right to dissent from the message of this blog and its supporters. It is in fact good to have a right-wing voice to contend with. I don't support him when he goes ad hominem, tries to hurt people, or spams racism all over. Then, the thread becomes just about him, and others feel turned away.
Posted by: Yochanan Lavie | May 15, 2009 at 07:21 AM
itchiemayer: If you remember, I did apologize and stated that I was WRONG. But, nothing makes me angrier than racist Jews. "Relatively new" because I assume rightly or wrongly that this has been going on over a longer period of time than my involvement in FM

I have been trying to find a way to communicate with whoever is "in charge" of this forum, and this seems to be my only way.
Since this blog is dealing with the issue of what is or is not appropriate behavior, I'd like to suggest that the following message be removed for that very reason:
The author wrote as follows:
"I'm sorry Mr. Leeman, but you're not only a Catholic, you're one of the Knights of Columbus. Your authority on the subject is null and void.
I've already sat shivah for you sir, as you are dead as one of God's chosen people."

-------------------------------------------
In the "for what it's worth" department, I've posted exactly two messages to this forum, neither of which carried any sort of religious content. Both were written regarding the issue of how cattle are slaughtered.
I found this forum while looking for an old high school classmate of mine, Seth Benjamin Joseph Mandel. The above topic caught my attention, so I replied to it.
Also "for what it's worth", I believe the author's name is not Gwen, but that her middle name is "Guinevere". If so, then I know exactly who she is, and can verify that she is not a Jew. Her mother, in fact, is Roman Catholic, and she is herself a Confirmed Catholic, so she is also Roman Catholic through her birth.
On the other hand, my mother was a practicing Jew, and I will be a Jew until the day I die. I was Bar Mitzvah in 1962 at Congregation Chai Odom, formerly located in Dorchester and now located in the Brighton section of Boston,
Now, I "might" be wrong, but as far as I know, a non-Jew cannot "sit shiva" for a Jew. If that is true, then her comment is wrong and possibly a lie. To me, her message just seems to be loaded with vitriol.
All I am asking is that her message (and this one, too) be removed as it has nothing to do with the actual discussion that was taking place.
Shalom!
