CBS News On Postville

I think this is part one of a two part report. Unfortunately, part one makes the mayor look as if he took swift, strong action.
But, as I noted earlier today, this is not true.

Notice the central focus of the aforementioned CBS report - no inference to theology, frum families - just simple folk. It contained only a single reference of Agri's kosher production - not even a word regarding the alleged corruption and malice.
Those depicted ARE everyday people, not knowing where this crisis will lead them, next. Especially as this month is coming to a close, and the next mortgage/rent payment is due.
All of this, is unquestionably, an American problem, requiring all to address in a secular, nonpartisan manner.
Thus, more reason Chabad organizations, shuls as well ALL others, jew/gentile should be less concerned as to specific earmarking of aide - they should be more concerned with helping their own fellow Americans, ALL displaced workers, and their illegal counterparts - those who were lured into coming under false pretenses, to work for Agri. Yet they were bated and switched (in essence, lied and cheated). These people only followed the beckoning of Agri, only wanting to provide for their loved one's.
We've seen Chabad lend a helping hand before in a nonpartisan, secular manner, why not again, especially now?
And consider just how much America does for Israel - without her help, would the homeland be what it is today? Doubtful.
Think American - Be American. And for G-d's sake, be a true nonpartisan/secular humanitarian.

This is NOT atypical of the dire predictions for other small towns. This company would have survived the raid had it not been for the criminal charges. This was not mentioned in the CBS piece. It was completely left out. The folks left in limbo are to be assisted in one way or another. They need to file for all the utility assistance and get food stamps etc. They need to get their children on Medicaid or the Iowa Health Care. They should access every means of assistance. How many companies knowing their financial problems would recruit people to work from all over the country and bring them out to work with the intention of not paying. This was handwriting on the wall folks, and definitely more evidence of the complete disregard for people. Yes, there will contine to be layoffs but not due to destructive behavior. The raid is being blamed for the problems at Agri, but it was only the catalyist for bring the lack of respect for labor laws and all other laws that have been broken.

I watched the CBS special on Postville and when the illegal woman was interviewed and told that her and her husband spent 14,000 to smuggle their 13 and 14 year old children into the US and then put them to work at Agri just dosen't make me feel all sad for them, where in to hell did they get the money? why weren't they charged and put in prison for child abuse? Just think how far that money would have helped in their own Country. The town of Postville and the churches are being used by this and all across America this is going on,our leaders need to throw the book at these people instead of catering to them! What a shame on the face of America to be dupped.

The only thing that speaks louder than the anonymity in the previous post, is the unadulterated compassion.
I'm sure glad I haven't been dupped.
