BREAKING! No Paychecks From Agriprocessors – Plant Shut Down
Jeff Abbas from Postville Radio tells me he has just confirmed…
… that Agriprocessors missed its payroll today.
Abbas spoke with a senior plant official who told him the plant will not be operating Sunday or Monday, and that Agriprocessors hopes to be able to issue paychecks Tuesday.
Abbas told me he told the plant official that any Jewish families that need help should come to the radio station.
One would think all assets may be eventually frozen...

This is devestating to the few of us left here.
Everybody can trash Sholom, but I believe that he got in over his head and these charges of bank fruad where not for his or his families personal gain but an attempt to keep the companies head above water, and provide affordable Kosher products to the people who choose to keep kosher. I read posts from so many people that take delight in this tragedy and believe that the Agriprocessors Family was all about greed.
I don't belive that greed had anything to do with it. I believe that there was a warped sense of a higher calling to provide Kosher product to kosher observants at any cost.
Rubashkin personal finacial gain was not the motive, and was never the objective.
Absolutely devastating, but not for personal gain.

les, have you been doing the DEW? These people are crooks who have never come clean paying their bills and no amount of coating can cover the evil they have done to this little town.

does it really matter what there motives were? Greed or incompetence? Incompetence may be even worse, as they could not trouble themselves to learn how to run a business, or to hire those who would take the job seriously. At least greed is a rational motive. Incompetence on that scale is beyond words.

Rabbi David Willig,
sorry for being nosy, but are you overseas at this time?
Your comment tonight is just barely a half hour after sunset in the NYC area.

No one is delighted that a major employer in a small midwestern town is shut down, and people are stranded, w/o an income. But how can one justify: providing fake documents to illegals, cruelty to animals, employing minors to do dangerous work, "company town" style substandard housing, monopolistic business practices, doing kosher slaughter improperly, rude treatment of customers, creating environmental hazards, hiring a PR firm with sleazy character assassination tactics, mislabeling meat, e. coli infestations, alleged harassment of female employees, supervisors intimidating employees into buying substandard used cars, not providing adequate healthcare or safety training for workers, not paying workers for overtime, or in a timely fashion, or docking them for housing until their paychecks zero out, union busting (whatever one thinks of unions, that's illegal- and unions in Iowa, a "right to work" state would have limited power anyway).
Oh but that's okay! As long as the motives were altruistic!

YL,
I think it's time for a "We Didn't Start the Fire" parody. Call it "Shmarya Didn't Start this Fire". Try to include all the participants in the Rubbishcan scandal. I think your parody will be twice as long as the Billy Joel original.
Posted by: steve | November 15, 2008 at 06:50 PM
Steve: I think that might be beyond my powers. There's so much to write about.

Someone asked UOJ to do that Billy Joel parody for YTT some years back. That would take hours of songwriting.

What did you jokers think was going to happen to all the undocumented aliens you displaced from gainful employment with your holy "higher mission"?

So it's the fault of Shmarya and other "jokers" for uncovering the illegality, and not the fault of the perpetrators.

As posted by YL elsewhere, let's start blaming cops for arresting perps, judges for sentencing them.
Madness. But when one is pushing a charedi agenda, it makes perfect sense.

It is disgusting to see how delight some people get, when someone goes down. For all those who have caused this to happen, they will have what to answer infront of Melech Malchei Ham'lochim, about why there are peopel that will now be eating Treif Meat.
And to those who are enjoying this, you should know that your time will come too, as the Gemra says, Lashon Harah kills three, and this blog is B'geder L"H.

There was a protest today of about a hundred people in front of Rubashkin's butcher shop in Brooklyn. I provide a rundown of the issue and the protest here:

I welcome your input.

We are not "delight" that a company has gone out of business. If they were ethical, it would have never come to this.
