Many kudos to Shmarya for his heartwarming article in jewcy.com !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had several occasions, as the JVNA liason to PETA, to visit Philip at PETA Headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.
But I was never aware, then, that he and his wife Hannah, were the Mr. and Mrs. James Bond of the PETA undercover establishment.
May HaShem greatly bless these two outstanding people for their incredible service to help uncover and eliminate animal cruelty.

This quote from jewcy.com says it all:
""""It is no coincidence that the Rubashkins, whose slaughterhouses are so abusive to animals, also extended this lack of compassion to exploit humans.""""

Following up on an earlier post by Carol Ann Varley, PETA sent a letter to the Governor of Iowa on May 14, demanding that Rubashkin be put out of business, for good.
The URL for this letter is below:

GOOD READING !!!!!

John,
As a rant, I look forward to actually witnessing the terrible things that you wish for others happen to you.

While you are on the topic of PETA letters, here is the mother of all PETA letters.

The letter you reference was absolutely inappropriate and was properly condemmed, after which, PETA did not repeat their error.
But can the same thing be said of Rubashkin?
I think not.

If you think that justice for the abused and properly meted punishment for the guilty are "terrible things," then you, sir, have some seriously twisted values.

--The letter you reference was absolutely inappropriate and was properly condemmed, after which, PETA did not repeat their error.--
I'm still waiting for an official retraction and clarification for a letter that they still maintain on their website.

++The letter you reference was absolutely inappropriate and was properly condemmed, after which, PETA did not repeat their error.++
Arafat died a few months later - so "repeating" the error would have been a challenge.
Regardless - They may well not have repeated it - but neither did they retract it or admit error. In fact - as evidenced by the link given - they still proudly display it on their website.

For the record, I support and donate to PETA, simply because their stated goal "To Eliminate Animal Cruelty Worldwide", is completely consistent with the Torah.
I do not support them because they, sometimes, make serious mistakes or because all of their professional staff (33% are Jewish) are imperfect people, just like the rest of us.
No less a person than J.S. Bach had to be reminded in 1705, by an Arstadt Town Councilor, that: "We must all learn to live among the imperfect."

++For the record++
For the record - what I and other seem to take issue with your statement that their note to Arafat was "was properly condemmed, after which, PETA did not repeat their error".
While I concede the mission of PETA is an honorable one - their EXTREME stances and tactics that are often (in spite of themselves) anti-animal really relegate them to the wings of society. That they do good every now and then (like the exposure of Rubashkin) cannot be argued - that they crossed a line with the Arafat letter and continue to live on or beyond that line on a daily basis also cannot be argued.
Posted by: rebitzman | July 04, 2008 at 03:45 PM
I will follow through and contact PETA, firmly asking that their note to Arafat needs to be pulled from their site.
They have accomplished a great deal to reduce animal cruelty over many years and have to, at times, run EXTREME "Street Theater" Campaigns to get the job done for G-d's innocent creatures. But there is much more, behind the scenes, that they do, as well, that the public never finds out about.

I think Shmarya should post the hot Alicia Silverstone picture from the Jewcy link. It might even make a confirmed carnivore like me switch (bli neder)...

"Experimenting on animals is not an effective way of advancing human health. "
LOL, what an atrocious lie. That just made me disbelieve the entire article, which I thought was decent until that point. Obviously agenda trumps truth for this individual. That is one of the most ridiculous lies I've heard in a long time.
