Two supervisors arrested at Postville plant

Federal authorities arrested two plant supervisors at the Postvillle-based Agriprocessors, Inc. this morning for allegedly helping many undocumented employees work at the kosher meatpacking plant illegally, according to a federal complaint unsealed today.

Immigration agents arrested Martin De La Rosa-Loera and Juan Carlos Guerrero-Espinoza and were driving them down to Cedar Rapids for court hearings, said U.S. Attorney spokesman Bob Teig. Authorities also are searching for a third worker, Teig said, who will be identified later this afternoon.

The complaint also alleges that several of the illegal workers traveled to Des Moines in April to obtain false identification papers.

De La Rosa-Loera and Guerrero-Espinoza work as plant supervisors, according to the complaint. Both were charged with aiding and abetting the use of fraudulent identification documents. De La Rosa-Loera oversees four areas of the plant, including the poultry kill department; Guerra-Espinoza supervises four areas including the beef kill department.

The arrests come more more than a month after federal agents stormed the plant and detained 389 immigrant workers in the largest single-site immigration raid in American history. A federal affidavit released after the May 12 raid suggested that plant managers had abused workers and knew that much of the plant’s work force was undocumented.

According to the complaint:

The charges stem from the testimony of several illegal workers, including one — identified in court papers as “Source 3” — who testified to a federal grand jury on June 10.

Source 3 testified that, about two weeks before the raid, De La Rosa-Loera told the employee that he/she could no longer work at the plant because his/her social security number was invalid.

The worker then traveled with his/her immediate supervisor and three other employees to buy fake identification papers in Des Moines. Several days later, De La Rosa-Loera told the worker that it was OK to return to work without presenting the new ID.

The supervisor who traveled to Des Moines — an illegal worker identified as “Subject C” — testified that De La Rosa-Loera told him/her in late April to get new identification papers, and allowed him/her to continue working at the plant. Other workers whose documents were flagged traveled out of state to get new false papers.

A former human resources worker at the plant — identified as Source 4 — told federal authorities that Guerrero-Espinoza would occasionally bring resident alien cards to the office for new workers to be hired.

In the days before the raid, Guerrero-Espinoza told employees that they would need new work papers and asked for money. Guerrero-Espinoza told one illegal worker that he/she would need $200 and a photograph to work at the plant. The worker paid Guerrero-Espinoza, who then gave the worker a fake name. In another case, Guerrero-Espinoza asked a worker for $200 for a new social security number and $20 for gas.

These two supervisors were also allegedly involved in the used car fraud and extortion allegedly committed by Hassam Amara, the Agriprocessors supervisor who allegedly fled to Israel.

Amusingly, all of the racists on vosizneias.com now assume the Rubashkins are absolved because only "goyim" were arrested.

You'd have to be an absolute moron to believe that a plant full of non-English speaking Latinos were all in the country legally. Willful blindness to the criminal provisions of the United States Code isn't an excuse, nor is being a "frum" Jew. As 10 minutes on this site will tell you, Jews seem to flaunt the law more than anyone else!

As a federal taxpayer, I look forward to buying Empire chickens to supply Rubashkin's jail cell.

Court documents show some of the evidence was obtained in Grand Jury testimony in late June. Could be that the feds are in the process of building a bigger case against perhaps even the Rubashkins. Interesting to note that ICE has been throwing CEOs in jail lately.

It's beautiful to see how this process is unfolding in a very intelligent and well thought out manner.

1. ICE moles were planted on the inside to obtain enough evidence to secure a search warrant.

2. Exercising the Warrant leads to the arrests of illegal aliens, from whom, mounds of evidence is obtained against Rubashkin(s).

3. Lower level managers are arrested.

4. Plea-bargaining leads to these lower level folks to become government witnesses.

5. Rubashkin(s) are arrested, tried and sent to prison.

6. ALL Rubashkin food animal enterprises are shut down or sold to responsible owners.

1. The one who escaped is Jewish.
2. We have to give some strokes to Shmarya for the way he runs this board. While it is certainly within his right, and there are times I WISH he'd pull posts (like the first one in this thread) that are simply offensive, he does steadfastly stand behind the idea that everyone gets to speak - no matter how poorly - no matter how offensive - no matter how juvenile (like the first post in this thread).

I just posted (first - and likely last time) at the site you referenced - didn't attack, merely asked how the fact that no one named Rubashkin had been arrested in this round proved they had no involvement.....and the post was jerked inside of 5 minutes.

You have thought I accused THEM of trying to date a Rubashkin.

So....thanks Shmarya for allowing me to disagree with you (I still maintain you are NOT being fair to Rabbi Gil Student), and for allowing me to go beyond the boundaries of good taste as I TRY to make a point from time to time.
