The problem is the mainstrem Haredi rabbis let these guys get away with it. They won't say what you just said, which is that they're scumbags.
"Some are sincere....." blah blah blah.

Shmarya,
It also came to my attention recently a case of severe physical abuse described in non-other than the haggada.
the wicked son is supposed to be administered a severe beating which results in the knocking out of all his teeth?
How old is this wicked son and are the Rabbanim doing anything about it????
Posted by: small frei | April 07, 2008 at 11:50 AM
"Blunting his teeth," which is what the Haggada actually says, is not "knocking out his teeth." There is no mention of beating the wicked son in the Haggada.
Maybe you need to go back to school for awhile.

Does anyone know which city in Canada?

Is this(rabbi)in a jail or walking the
streets in Canada?

I think its a bit more complicated in Israel than in Boro Park, as in Israel all sorts of unemployed people with mental disorders decide that they have "special powers", and there are even weaker and sicker people who follow them. It was like that with Gafni, after he got into trouble in the US he became a freelance guru in Israel. In the US, you need a shul, a shtelle, some kind of formal position, but its easy in Israel to hang out a shingle and become a "healer" or a "tzaddik". Its not like anyone else around you has a real job either... And its not just in religious circles, there are all sorts of "health advisors", etc, who came back after a month in India with "wisdom" and medical advice.

If he wrote/said that, he's a scumbag.
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 02:58 PM
I'll bet that he shows up at my door some time before Pesach with a sob story and a request for a "big cheque".

The big bluff: Hachnasat Kalla
There's a mini-tycoon by the name of Gurvitz originally from London, who is planning on preventing his daughter from getting married tomorrow night to a very choshuve family. He has already hired goons to twice beat up the groom.
He has bullied every Rabbi in the country to bother the family and all of them refuse to be Mesader Kidushin!
Next time someone comes crying to you for Hachnasat Kalla money know that he didn’t lift a finger to prevent this – and may even have helped prevent Hachnasat Kalla in its purest form; a wedding.
Come see with your own eyes at the Reich hotel tomorrow (Tuesday) night how Yidden do real Hachnasat Kalla. Helmets and bullet proof vests are recommended.
Remember: if they don’t get a nice cut then Hachnasat Kalla doesn't count for anything.

This guy is an example of why I no longer believe in kabbalah. It's not in the pshat, and there is no reality check on what these kabbalah gurus do.
Posted by: Yochanan Lavie | April 07, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Hey, yochanan, who said anywhere that anything this guy did had any support or backing from the kabbalah? Who turned this sick molester into a kabbalah guru? You want to show me a text from ANY source other than Pasolini (in Salo) that advocates feeding babies feces, burning them with rocks, etc? What you do with this statement is almost provide an excuse and alibi for this monster, by giving him an out where he can claim its "kabbalah" that led him astray.
Criminal deviancy doesn't usually require proof texts.

Posted by: meyer |
Yup. Another example of why haredi education is deficient.
"Blunt his teeth" is an idiomatic expression. It means you should put him in his place and humble him.
Posted by: Shmarya | April 07, 2008 at 06:01 PM
all these 'kabbalists' are scumbags.
I once heard that if one studies kabbalah before he's ready, he'll go insane.

What this rat deserves is the fulfillment of the Exodus story "Ka'asher Zadu Alayhem" (Just like they planned for them)

++Tell us, oh wise one. How do we blunt his teeth?++
Most of the sources I have read indicate it means to humble the wicked child with the goal of making him righteous.
If you have a source that supports the idea that we are supposed to whack out his teeth - I'd love to read it.
Posted by: | April 07, 2008 at 09:53 PM
True, he's scum. however, the really appalling part is that parents for whom their children are assumed to be the most important things in the world, would actually follow this guy's horrendous advice. We expect more backbone and we are forever disappointed.
Posted by: Dr Fred | April 07, 2008 at 11:44 PM
This is what happens when a parent
put the words in this case a rabbi
over the best interest of a chld.
Parents if a rabbi tells you to do
something to your children and if it
just doe's not feel right. It is your
duty to run like hell and CALL THE
POLICE AT ONCE...You are the parent
not some crzy rabbi.

Maven - you hit it on the nail. And the thing is - its mostly the secular folks, not the observant, seeking the counsel of these shamans. Its so very prevalent, even in the upper stratum of society. A couple of years ago I was involved in negotiations between the Israeli agents of two huge multinational corporations in the health care field. The general managers of both local companies were female, and - TA DA - both visited on a regular basis with the same "seer", and sought his advice on the most crucial of business decisions. Needless to say, any disagreements between these two were easily ironed out by the holy "rabbi". This goes on all the time.
Another example - my wife, a clinical psychologist, had a client, a high-ranking secular professional, who was previously "in treatment" with a.... fortune teller, three times a week, in lieu of therapy. You get the picture.
Posted by: Yoni | April 08, 2008 at 08:26 AM
Yeden! Please! Use your sachel...this man is a monster and those who follow him are not of their right minds. They need to be brought to justice to make sure they never do these things again to any child anywhere. But they are the exceptions, not the norm. You can not blame all Jews or all Haraidi or all those who study Kabbalah for the horrible acts of a small group. Just as you can not blame all husbands if one abuses his wife, or all mothers if one mistreats her children, or all children if one commits murder, etc., etc. The best way to counter this situation is to join together to "out" this monster, make sure he is put away forever, and show the world that he is a horrible aberration of what Judaism really is. You know the old saying: "united we stand, divided we fall."
Posted by: Yehudit Sara | April 08, 2008 at 12:10 PM
Yehudit Sara , you have the most sensible answer . we can not throw out the " baby with the bathwater " as the saying goes . Evil has to be punished , lets find the evil culprit and I hope it is soon ; i hope he is not hiding in my country Canada - but where ever he is that he will not be able to live in peace . Someone will know him and the LORD ALLMight knows too . If you believe , pray !!!!!!!!!!!

this MOTHER FU KER. i would like to boil stones and stick it up his as- MOTER FU K.some other sick rabbi is probably hiding him.

They should boil the meshuggener psychopath's rocks in oil while they are still attached!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: | April 09, 2008 at 02:28 AM
But they are the exceptions, not the norm. You can not blame all Jews or all Haraidi or all those who study Kabbalah for the horrible acts of a small group.
But these people so arrogantly and sanctimoniously claim that they, and everybody within their circles, are holy, and everybody outside is a commoner. So if they don't root out the corruption and evil within their midst, they are ALL corrupted and befouled, and can no longer lay claim to holiness. Period.
They can't admit that the same problems that plague the world outside theirs also afflict their world as well. That would reduce them to, what? You and I, in their minds.
It's all a pile of dreck.

You can't judge a book by its cover...
Abuse exists in ALL communities, regardless of race, creed, religion, nationality, or any other appearance or label.
Help end abuse by
STAYING IN CONTACT WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS
and
ALWAYS REPORTING ABUSERS!
Fix the world by showing others kindness and respect!
The behaviors of these sick and twisted individuals DO NOT speak for:
the Jewish People, Rabbis, or the Kabbalah!
The actions of these abusers only describe sick, broken, twisted, maladjusted, and perverted human beings who make BAD DECISIONS!
Fix the world by showing others kindness and respect!
Posted by: chaim | June 04, 2008 at 11:32 AM
to chaim on not judging a book by its cover:
guess what? That's what the general populace does. So, the next time someone sees a chasidic guy walking down the street and hear this story, *that's* what they'll think of. You see, being a religious person means living a live 'above reproach'. Not just talking about it. Sure we're all human, but a religious person has no room to behave badly. Others are watching/waiting for those to make a hillul hashem so they can throw the Torah wholesale in the trash.
