Rabbi Avrohom Schorr: Bully, Coward – The New Jewish Music Ban, part 13

Hella Winston has a Page 1 story in tomorrow's New York Jewish Week on the Lipa Schmeltzer-concerts ban.

Here's the (cowardly) money quote, in context:

The spokesman [for concert producer Shya Mendlowitz] specifically cited Asher Friedman, a Brooklyn resident who heads Nechomas Yisroel, an organization that pays yeshiva tuition for children who would otherwise be forced to go to public school, and Avrohom Schorr, a Flatbush rabbi, as the instigators of the ban.

Mendlowitz’s representative believes that Friedman, with Schorr’s backing, obtained the signatures by using some manner of deception to get the first few rabbis to sign on, and then used those signatures to persuade others to add their names as well.

Numerous calls to Friedman went unreturned, and Schorr, when reached at home, told The Jewish Week that he was “not available to answer questions over the phone.” When asked if he would answer questions in person, Schorr said that he was going out of town for “a couple of weeks.”

Let's see. You instigate a ban that causes damages in excess of $700,000. You lurk around in the shadows, orchestrating this ban. You give none of the people banned or impacted by the ban a fair hearing. You do nothing to try to work out your dispute first; you just ban. Then, a reporter wants you to answer questions about the ban and you hide.

What a pathetic coward. Have a nice 'vacation,' Avomele…

Avrumi Schorr is not on vacation, he's home. This lunatic has a history of building up a following, doing something outrageous which forces him to move and start again. I think he's ready for round three.

This a complete lie. I was in Yeshiva with HaRav Schorr, shlit"a. He was the best boy in yeshiva, mesivta, and kollel--by far.

He is HaRav Schorr, and if you don't like him don't go to his shul, learn his seforim, or attend his shiurim. But don't make up things about the man. That makes you more than just a fanatic, but a bad human being, too.

If you get to know more about this "guy." you will learn that he, too, is a real scholar. Rav Gedalia Schorr, ztvk"l was the real deal, not merely because he was a genuine genius and awesome tzadik, but because he made it in the olam haTorah--i.e., won the acclaim of genuine gadol status by the biggest of the generation like R' Moshe and R' Aharon--even though his father was not a gadol hador and learned in America in a time where the best minds would have become academics and the like. The brilliance for which he was renowned is shared by all his four sons, and R' Avrohom is known as one of the best.

Understanding a reb akiva eiger better then 99% of the rest of us doesn't make you into a decent human being. Being a talmid chocham doesn't make you a tzadik.

By the way, His brothers are humble and are tzaddikim.

He is not only a gerrer chossid, He was personally recruited by the gerrer rebbe the late bais yisroel who was the one that implemented all the nutty chumros in ger.

Any sane chossid in israel or america that has a daughter of shidduch age would never be mishadech with a gerrer family.

The reason why bais yaakov of ger in brooklyn was created is because NO CHASSIDIHE GIRL IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD MARRY A GERRER BOY. Until the school was created the american boys ended up marrying israeli gerrer girls (many still do).

By the way, where was r' schorr (better ?) when lipa margulies was protecting a child molester in his yeshiva for over 35 years. Obviously he wasn't going around like a screaming hyena. Why didn't he and asher friedman pressure all the major rosh yeshivos to come out against any child going to torah temmimah.

The "gedoilim" and their hyena askanim can financially destroy many lives. And you and others would still follow them. That is until your own ox is gored.

tO my knowledge, Rav Schorr never did anything wrong to widows and/or orphans. I do know what the Torah says about saying loshon Hara about talmidei chachomim in public. You, obviously, don't. And as demonstrated by yout hysterical posts, you are less of a human being for it. Rav Schorr is humble and he is a tzadik. If you have a problem with him, why post irrelevant comments rife with misrepresentations? Just call him, visit him, see what happens. I can gaurantee: one way or another, knowing him will cause you to feel ashamed for the way you wrote about him. And if you actually learn a little bit and become more involved in halacha, you probably would have a much better understanding of where he is coming from. Those who know little about our faith really have no right to gripe about it.

I know very litle about R. Schorr, nor about many of th eother signators to the concert ban. I DO know a few people who purchased tickets to the concert. They aren't being reimbursed. If a husband, wife and three or four kids wanted to go have a night out, and forked over two or three hundred dollars for tickets, who made ANY of the so called Gedolim, judge, jury and hangman to deprive Jews of their hard earned money?

Where is there an "issur" for me to go to a concert (or anything else for that matter, except for davening), and sit with my daughter, wife, granddaughter, etc? Who gave anyone the right to determine what music is "kosher" and what isn't?

We have so mny problems in the Jewish world. We have just seen 8 kids shot to death in a Yeshiva, countless more are suffering in S'derot and other places. Forty percent of American Jews are intermarrying. Orthodox families cannot afford to provide their kids with a Jewish education. American Jews are possibly faced with a President who either kissed Suha Arafat, or belongs to a church whose pastor is definitely an Anti Semite, Yeshiva adminstrators (some) harbor sexual predators. Kosher food products are insanely overpriced (and perhaps, tainted in the manner meat is slaughtered), kids in Yeshiva High Schools are being turned off by curriculums and modes of learning that are suitable for only a select few students.....AND OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IS HOW TO BAN CONCERTS!!!

In 2,000 years from now, people may be learning how Salvation could have come about in 2008, but for Lipa and Bar Lipa!!

I can't Believe What I've been reading. Rav Avrohom Schorr is a Gadol Recognized in Both America And Eretz Yisroel. It's amazing how people who lack a full scope of the entire picture have no problem firing off their mouths at Gedolai Hador. Friends; It's a pure chillul hashem to demean any Jew. Rav Schorr, shlita is a tremendous tzaddik. He's constantly helping others in klal yisroel, teaching torah and getting people to do teshuva. He does not practice gerer chasidus or push it on others. If you demean a fellow Jew in public, like in this forum, you do the aveiro of 'hamalbin pnei chaveiro ain lo chelek loalam habo'. i.e if u demean your fellow jew in public, you to lose your share in Heaven. Also, you are causing others to sin as they read your loshon horah (i.e. scurillous slander).
