FailedMessiah on the Radio, part 2
An mp3 of my interview on the Talkline Network's Mamash Radio show is posted after the jump in the extended post. The interview aired Saturday night-Sunday morning after Zev Brenner's show and Shmuel Butman's Moshiach on the Air.
I want to correct a misstatement I made.
Even though there was no help from the Rebbe, and Chabad in Minnesota refused to get officially involved, it is incorrect to say that no help came from Chabad of Minnesota.
Although Rabbi Moshe Feller refused to personally call his close friend Senator Boschwitz and ask him to help, he did give me the name and number of Senator Boschwitz's foreign policy aide so I could call. But he adamantly refused to speak to Senator Boschwitz about this issue.
Ironically, Senator Boschwitz was a friend of a the Halperin family. Bill Halperin was involved in early rescues from Ethiopia with Baruch Tegegne. Bill died (or was assassinated) during one of those rescue attempts. Senator Boschwitz was very interested in helping and played a key roles during Operations Moses, Joshua and Solomon.
The sources I mention in the interview and more details are posted here.
You should be able to play this mp3 in your browser, or you can download it and play it in your media player.

After the Rebbe told you to go to Rav Feinstein, you told us Rav Feinstein's response, but then what? Did you return to the Rebbe to show him exactly what you had found? You did not make this clear in the interview. Please clarify. What was your next step, and what was the precise reaction?

The Rebbe was given Rav Moshe's response by Rav Moshe's family. Rabbi Dworkin, the ABD of Crown Heights, also had it and agreed with it. I have described that and my meeting with Rav Dworkin about it several times in the past.
The Rebbe had Rav Moshe's earlier answers, as well. He also had the letter and petition signed by Rav Mohe.
Agudas HaRabbonim issued a pesak (basically Rav Moshe's teshuva) signed by hundreds of rabbis. The rebbe was given this, as well.
The Rebbe did not help Ethiopian Jews even after receiving Rav Moshe's teshuvot, etc.

Shmarya: What do you think the Rebbe's motivation was? I don't think he was racist, because he accepted African-American converts.

None of those converts or their children were shluchim while the Rebbe lived.

Interesting. So what of all the other Agudath rabbis, since they issued that pesak? They helped? Maybe Lubovitch chose to commit resources elsewhere? Not everyone can do everything. But hey, I don't think the Rebbe was perfect to begin with so it's no problem with me if you fault him for that move. No person is perfect. But I don't need to smear him for it... What exactly is the point of all this? And I'm not saying this to be a jerk, I really mean the question.

The point is Jews need to know who and what their leaders really are.
We also need to learn from our past mistakes.

How can we help the situation with the Ethiopian Jews.
