Will Williamsburg's Walls Stand?
OU president Steve Savitsky speaks with Dr. Hella Winston and Dr. Aharon Fried about secular education, the steps many haredi communities take to keep secular knowledge out of their communities, and the heavy price paid by haredim as a result of this.

SHAMYRA:
Of greater importance is the Chabad Telethon coming up in a few weeks. Please do an article on Cunin, his lovely mishpachah, and where all the $$ goes. This should be one of the most relevant articles you could do on Chabad. I know many of the readers on this sight will help you with details, etc.
As this is a sight that is critical of the Chabad Business of Religion, this article is a must.

As I said previously, a Mashichist PROUDLY told me in 1995, NO CROWN HEIGHTS SCHOOL FOR BOYS HAS SECULAR STUDIES.
At least Williamsburgers(not of them fat) do attempt something.
See "Teacha! Stories of Yeshiva", don't remember the author.

I noticed that Chabad's new posters for the telethon employ different icons of a very young, Mattisyahu-like figure instead of the older dancing rabbi logo.
Coincidence? I think not. They are cashing in. And I think he's pissed or wants royalties. He recently distanced himself from Chabad, stating he was broadening his jewish horizons.

he refers to Chabad as as "sect" of Judaism, which is also interesting:
"My initial ties were through the Lubavitch sect," he told Miami New Times. "At this point I don't necessarily identify with it anymore. I'm really religious, but the more I'm learning about other types of Jews, I don't want to exclude myself. I felt boxed in."
Seems postworthy, Shmarya.

You can see the matisyahu-like illustration here:

"Mattisyahu" was on "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and the whores-starlets-actresses, in between "partners".
Can one imagine man from "alter heim", Lubavitch or not, in such a setting,ah?!

I know of many chabad kids that got a secular education after high school by going to university. Many are working in finance, law, etc. Some have shaved their beards and wear no kipah. They are happy with their choice, and happier that they don't live off the community, or have to work as professional schnorrers.
