A view from, well, haredi-land, largely a defense of/apology for the so-called gedolim: Charadiation.blogspot.com. He seems to think gedolim intentionally issue decrees they know will not be followed by their communities and do so in order to scare the edges of those communities and keep them in line. The fact that it is wrong to make laws people will not follow escapes him.
