I don't know which group has become more dishonest or bigger schnorrers: Aish or Chabad. Sadly, they've probably both turned more Jews off to Judaism than they've brought to it.

I vote for Aish, but then again I am the anti-Aish! Please check out the blog. Thanks to Shmarya, we finally have some discussions going. And after I follow your suggestions, any chance Failed Messiah can link to us? Thanks a million!

Shmarya, off the subject, I was wondering if you could do what I've seen on other blogs where they give the numbers of people on average that visit the blog and what area of the world they live.

No. The service that does that slows down page loading.

Can you provide some data/evidence before spewing such anti-semitic comments?
Posted by: ed | August 06, 2007 at 10:14 AM
ed,
If Sarah had evidence she wouldn't have uses the word "probably." That said, my local Aish features four hours of class a week in a beautiful building donated to it by the county. They have a luxurious rabbi's house nearby that has been empty for the two years since a philanthropist donated it to them. All in all, not a very impressive record for the first Aish branch founded outside of Israel.

asks mr ed
but hey mr ed,
what is semitic in aish?
can you or aish provide peer reviewed data/evidence as to their success?
it seems all we have is self congratulations akin to those of the chassidic acheirim.
assuming they score successes, is that good?

Ed should stop playing the antisemite card to slander people, ESPECIALLY after Ed's nazi like comment about gentiles.
Posted by: Alex | August 06, 2007 at 01:15 PM
Has Ed ever been to the Aish place in NYC where they don't welcome anyone over the age of 20s and 30s? They try to brainwash young people and arrange matches for them and if they can't by the time they reach their 30s, Aish washes its hands of them.
Or try visiting Chabad in Midtown where the men sit around on Shabbat afternoon talking with a known pimp about how to find underage girls for sexual encounters. This is the same Chabad branch where the rabbi bought an East Side mansion. He keeps all of his money in his wife's name and in the name of questionable "charities". The rabbi tried to make this palace a one family home, attempting to evict an elderly female tenant. Rabbi was caught perjuring himself during court appearances and it was in the newspapers. He was accused of not paying his legal fees and ended up losing the case. It gets even worse. Not good people; not good Jews. People see this and run from there and from Judaism.

We all agree that "without Derech Eretz there can be no Torah", but how can we tell if a person has this essential prerequisite? A simple test; how they treat people. If we apply it early on, we would spare ourselves, and others, lots of grief.

I've met quite a few Jews who wouldn't go back to Chabad because of incidents like this one below and also left Aish because of non-stop schnorring and misleading and dishonest actions. Ended up totally giving up on Judaism. These groups may be doing more harm than good. What amazes me is how someone like Metzger can have such a hold over his followers. Is this a cult?
Copied this from a blog:
After three years of litigation in Manhattan Housing Court, twenty four days at trial, and 25 witnesses presented by Rabbi Joshua Metzger of the Chabad of Midtown Manhattan, Judge Peter Wendt in a 23 page decision declared that the tenant had the right to stay in her home of 28 years. The decision is unlikely to be appealed as the Judge has declared credibility issues on both the part of Joshua Metzger and most of his congregants of his Chabad who testified on his behalf.

Nothing like anecdotal musings/reports passed off as evidence and trends by some random "chick" named Sarah.
