Israel's kibbutzim are making a comeback based on privatization plans kibbutniks prefer to call "renewal," the New York Times reports.

Good! More Israelis will stay in Israel instead of moving to the US and starting moving companies, or contracting businesses.

Years ago, after I finished a semester at an Israeli University (during college), I volunteered on a kibbutz. There I cameto thsi conclusion: the State of Israel is a macrocosm of a kibbutz. Makes a lot of sense considering how the country developed.

The decline of the kibbutzim seemed like an ominous development and we saw similar privatization issues and growing pains in the larger Israeli society.

Based on that same reasoning, however, if kibbutzim are seeing a revival, perhaps there will be a similar revival in all of Israel as a whole and soon.

It's something I'm very happy to see, not just as a Jew but as an Israeli citizen.
