The Rebbe and the Holocaust: Chabad's Little White Lie
Rabbi Yankie Tauber writes on Chabad.org:
…In his writings and discussions on the subject, the Rebbe rejected all theological explanations for the Holocaust. What greater conceit -- the Rebbe would say -- and what greater heartlessness, can there be than to give a "reason" for the death and torture of millions of innocent men, women and children? Can we presume to assume that an explanation small enough to fit inside the finite bounds of human reason can explain a horror of such magnitude? We can only concede that there are things that lie beyond the finite ken of the human mind. Echoing his father-in-law, the Rebbe would say: It is not my task to justify G-d on this. Only G-d Himself can answer for what He allowed to happen. And the only answer we will accept, said the Rebbe, is the immediate and complete Redemption that will forever banish evil from the face of the earth and bring to light the intrinsic goodness and perfection of G-d's creation.…
Of course, Yankie Tauber is fibbing.

Instead of making plans to get the frick out of Europe while the writing was on the wall, the religious jews of europe came up with a "different way" of resisting the nazis .. like when it came to shabbat in the labor camps and they needed to lift an object that wasn't so heavy and lifting it may be chillul shabat, they would have two people lift the object as a "shinui" so that it wouldn't "be so much of an avarah," and they can look like retards.
Looking like retards in the name of God.

Hey bigmouth Alex, no one knew what was coming before the Nazis closed the borders. I bet you would have stayed for some vain reason yourself.

hey anynomous, ever hear of mein kampf? The nazi's intentions were crystal clear.
"reading newspapers are for apikorouses because we don't want outside influence so we could not have known that they wanted to kill us!!!" Was that the attitude that permeaeted European religious Jews? I'm not saying that I know for sure that that was the attitude but was it? Cause if so, it would explain alot.

Hey Alex:
"ever hear of mein kampf? The nazi's intentions were crystal clear." Then why wasn't the Zionist establishment in Palestine listening? Why did they gladly live within the limitations of the 1929 British White Paper limiting immigration? Why did they react to Hitler's coming to power by restricting immigration further? Why did Henrietta Szold write that so many of the immigrants were unfit human material, she wished there was a way to ship them back to Europe? Why, when the St. Louis was rotting outside the US, did the Jewish Agency refuse to give entry permits to any of its passengers (it had enough, but it was saving them for those judged fit to be "chalutzim.")?
You can blame the attitudes of European Jews all you want. But what about the Zionist establishment that didn't see it coming, either?

Hey Lawrence, is revisionary history one of your passtimes?
Herzl SAW the antisemetism particularly after the Dryfus affair and thats more or less what led him to write his book The Jewish State in which he basically said to paraphrase, 'Okay Europeans, you don't like us and that's fine. Perhaps the way to solve our problem is that we can get our state back in Palestine and we can move there, and we won't bother you and hopefully we won't be bothered.'
And whatever the zionists did to bring back the Jewish state Lawrence, NEWS FLASH Lawrence, IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its just that some of the zionists were in the Human Resoruces part of the zionist enterprise so to speak, and sometimes in HR one has to be the bad guy and reject people - and just as companies have to be viable and they have HR departments to that end, the Jewish state had to be viable also.
There were Jews with the brains to leave Europe before it was too late, and it was unfortunate that they were in the minority.

No, just accurate history.
Its just that some of the zionists were in the Human Resoruces part of the zionist enterprise so to speak, and sometimes in HR one has to be the bad guy and reject people - and just as companies have to be viable and they have HR departments to that end, the Jewish state had to be viable also.
In that, why blame the rejects for being rejected? If the Jewish state was going to reject them, why should they be blamed for not going through the charade?

Lawrence I had this arguement with you already, and I'm REALLY uninterested in rehashing it with you.
