Another Putin Critic Dead

Vladimir Putin's goons seem to have struck again, killing another journalist. ABC News reports:

Respected Russian journalist Ivan Safronov, who reported on military affairs, mysteriously plunged to his death from the 5th floor of his apartment building Friday, making him the 14th journalist to die under questionable circumstances in Putin's Russia, according to statistics compiled by the Committee to Protect Journalists.

"They killed Ivan. They killed Ivan," said a distraught former U.S. intelligence staffer familiar with Safronov when he learned the news today. "Another Russian journalist is dead. Ivan fell out of the window with his coat and hat on? Come on," said the former official who frequently visits Moscow and asked to remain anonymous.

Last October, Russian investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya was gunned down in the elevator of her apartment building as she unloaded groceries just days before she was scheduled to publish a story about the use of torture by Chechnyan officials.

Polikovskaya's killing, the 13th since Putin took office, led the Committee to Protect Journalists to declare Russia "the third deadliest country in the world for journalists" after Iraq and Algeria in their recent report, "Deadly News." All of the cases remain unsolved.

According to a report in this morning's Moscow Times, Safronov, who wrote for the Russian business newspaper "Kommersant," fell head first and fully clothed from a 5th floor window although he lived in an apartment on the 3rd floor of the building.

The Times reported the FSB -- the Federal Security Bureau, which is the successor agency to the KGB -- was unhappy with Safronov's reporting on sensitive weapons systems.

Safronov's death adds to the list of critics of the Putin regime and the FSB, who have died or been injured in strange circumstances in just the past six months:

- Investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya was gunned down last October. The killers have not been caught.

- Former spy Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned last November in London by the rare radioactive substance polonium, which was slipped into a teapot.

- And just last week Russian scholar Paul Joyal was shot and wounded in an attack outside his suburban Maryland home, a few days after appearing on NBC News in a program about the Litvinenko case. So far, Maryland police have said the shooting appears to be the result of high crime in the area.

Chabad's "chief rabbi" of Russia, Berel Lazar provides cover for Putin, praising him to Western politicians and human rights activists, as Putin turns Russia into a Stalinesque dictatorship. Putin himself gained power with the backing of oligarchs close to Chabad. Russia is arming Syria and protecting Iran. If  – and, God forbid, when – Israel pays the price for Chabad's blindness, don't forget who put Putin in power and who has helped keep him there.

Freedom is the greatest gift man has received outside of creation. To squander it on the altar of Menachem Mendel Schneerson is truly an evil deed.

Even if Putin ordered this murder which hasn't been investigated nor proven Rabbi Lazar bears no responsibility for it direct or indirect.
He praises Putin for positive things that he does as head of state and pleads with him to spend more resources to fight anti-semitism etc.
It is not his job as a chief rabbi to fight against Putin how much more so if in fact he can get murdered for doing so.

Yea, if Rabbi Lazar spoke up like those journalists, he could suffer the same fate, G-d forbid. He's having to operate in an extremely difficult set of circumstancese. If he did speak out against Putin, nothing would change, except that the situation of the Jews in russia would probably become much worse.

there is no comparison between bush and the lazar.

Make no mistake people. Lubavitch is bad, bad, bad. Lubavitch is not a cure-all for your problems, but the exact opposite. If you value your future, the future of your kids, I strongly advise you (Though I am not reform and do not advocate for the reform movement) to look into the pre-holocaust Reform movement's METHODOLOGY (Unfortunately they did not practice what they preached. Circumcision for example was viewed as barbaric, but still practiced unfortunately), which I have mentally resurrected and label "Reformist" in my mind. (Kind of like a spinoff of Liberatarianism). Moishe "cozzying up to villians" is unfortunatly part of life ever since who was it ? Yochanan ben Zakai cozzied up to Vespesian (was it?) and thus saved Yavne and it's scholars and before and after that this is nott unique to Chabad nor to Jews it is part of politics...
