There's a very simple reason these non-YU students are there.
YU's classes are in session and the students are heading towards final exams.
Other colleges do not close for an extended period during the Yom Tov period.
YU got involved immediately after the hurricane by sending assistance to people who fled New Orleans.
YU's vacation is coming up and there are a number of programs planned for the students including an outreach trip to Germany.
I would not be suprised to see YU students helping out at that time.
