Satmar Factions Rumble In Williamsburg

Two rival Satmar factions fought in shul in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY on Simhat Torah. Police broke up the rumble before it could turn into a full-fledged riot. This is the community whose Beit Din is entrusted by NYC's mayor to 'investigate' metzitza b'peh.

If Leonard Bernstein were alive today maybe he could write a musical about these waring gangs-

"When you are Satmar you are Satmar all the way from your first aliyah to your last dying day" would be a good song.

Or "Rebecca my ima just met a girl named Rebecca --she is the most beautiful girl that I've never seen!"

or "Dear Rebbe Teiltlebaum you've done it again!"

Or the Kiryas Joel group could sing "There's no place for us ---in Williamsburg."

Maybe there is a part here for Barbara Streisand and Nathan Lane

And it would be pretty inexpensive to put on the show- the costumes would be all the same and no one would need makeup or fancy clothes.

I see it as a sequel to the Producers.

Seriously, though, where does one even begin to comment on this?
These guys are the product of years of cholov Yisrael, glatt kosher, no-one-is-as- good-as-we-are, and they get violent with their own kind? Didn't their mommies ever teach them it's wrong to smoke cigarettes and watch TV on Simchas Torah?

This violence repeats itself every year at this time. Any outcry from a responsible Satmar leader? Is there one out there, anywhere, who's not afraid to be beaten up? No.

Their consistent chillul Hashem behavior is so outrageous it would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. Can you even imagine the scene there? NYPD cops, almost all of whom are not Jewish, breaking up a fight between hundreds of identically dressed Hasidic Jews, peyos flying, hats flying, beards being pulled, faces slapped, a wall broken down, guys sitting around smoking and watching TV...the last one is especially scandalous...

Who can trust a single word these guys say about kashrus or anything else? I'm so amazed chasidim actually think this is appropriate to do on behalf of their maligned rebbe...and what does Aaron say about this violence? Nothing.
