CHABAD UPDATE: The Rebbe King Messiah And The Tsunami
The following poster was sent to me by a loyal reader.
The Hebrew across the top of the flyer reads, "Yechi adonaynu moreynu v'rabaynu melekh hamoshiach leolam voed," "Long live our master, our guide, our rabbi the king messiah forever and ever." (Please click on the thumbnail to see the full-sized picture.)
Also note that the speakers include Rabbi Simon Jacobson, the popular Lubavitch writer and speaker.
Boy, that messianism sure has subsided, now hasn't it?
Will the Jewish Week have the guts to cover this? Will the Forward? The Jewish Press? Don't bet on it.
I'm a writer for the Baltimore Jewish Times. We are going to cover the story in a week or two. I'll send you the URL when (and I suppose, if) it is posted.

Man you've got issues, i guess this blog is cheaper than therepy, but you should really speak to a profesional about your misguided feelings towards Chabad. You can't possibly think the "bad" (that you think is bad) that they do outweighs the good they do.
Your intoolerance is hard and sad to see, it's stereotypical, painting all lubavitch with the same brush, i personally am often disgusted by the "messianic" lubavitchers, but i myself was mekarav by a chabad rabbi, and i don't base my whole beleif system on the rebbe being moshiach, not every person is the same, not every group is the same, and you should have the love in your heart to let people be. By writing the things you write on this board, your Loshan Hora and badmouthing does not outwiegh what you probably think its the greater good in "outing" lubavitch.

You are entitled to to your opinions, but not to distorting any facts.
You write that "Also note that the speakers include Rabbi Simon Jacobson, the popular Lubavitch writer and speaker."
Since I am quite familiar with Rabbi Jacobson's teachings and writings, I went to check out whether he is the person advertised on the flyer you posted. I wasn't surprised to discover that in fact "Rabbi S. Jacobson" is Rabbi Sholom Jacobson, and not Simon.
You should correct your mistake, and it may even be wise to apologize to Rabbi Simon Jacobson and to the thousands of his readers and students.

I had a very prominent Chabad Rabbi tell me that science only has a couple of laws. After I sent him 20 and offered to send many, many more, he wrote this to me: "I said there were only a few, and I think you just proved it for me. The fact that you felt you can even try and list them all, tells me how few there are, in comparison to the weight we give to science."
Is it me or is it the inability to concede any point that might undermine theology? I once had a Chabad member tell me that black people have it bad because one of Noah's sons was cursed and he was the one that went to Africa.
Thank you for your Tsunami post. God forbid plate tectonics would be permitted to explain an earthquake.
Carl Sagan - I miss you! Keep on posting!

I don't get your rant. What's the problem with having a symposium on the possible connections between the Tsunami disaster and Moshiach? What story is their to "cover" and why would it take "guts"?
p.s. Jay, re blacks and Noach - it's not a Lubavitch thing, per se. It's a Torah thing - it's a Midrash.

Guys,
Im Chabad myself, and i can tell you that most Lubavitchers (including myself) do NOT think that the Rebbe is Moshiach
