Methinks the Conservative Movement needs to focus on more important things. Like, oh, let's say, שמירת שבת for one.

Lumpy - There's a growing number of "Conservative" Jews who are Shomer Shabbat - and who find this issue very disturbing.

Paul, does that include the ones who drive their car to shul and the mall on שבת?

This is a real story
In my Orthodox shul of yesteryear between Yom Kipper services
This old feller says " What is the difference between Reform, Conservative and Orthodox?
The Reform will drive right to their Temple parking lot and may even have a rent-a-cop directing traffic,
The Conservative will park one block away.
The Orthodox will park one mile away and walk in"
We all had a good laugh
Now today:
Both the Reform and the Conservative will drive to the respective parking lots and may have a rent-a-cop.
You have heard that the Orthodox community is moving right ward?
Now today that 'Orthodox' person will park 1 1/4 miles away and walk in.
My shul back in those days had this president, he explained to me that he wasn't 'Orthodox' but rather old time Conservative and he did not drive on שבת
The trully stupid and dumb will 'accuse' someone of refusing to eat pig flesh or shrimp as being Orthodox.
One time the Lubavitch was collecting door to door, the householder asked if they were 'Orthodox' "Oh no" came the reply "We are Lubuvitch" and they got some money.
As told at the table of my rabbi back then.

The real kicker on this Conservative "teshuva" is that they demanded these changes 4 years ago (no shackling and hoisting, no Weinberg pens, etc.). Yet, apparently these practices are still widely used around the world. Now the Conservative movement claims to represent about 1/3 of jews in the USA and Canada. That should be a substantial portion of the kosher-eating public. Accordingly, one would expect that a directive from the CJLS, the leading body of Conservative Jewish law and practices, should carry some substantial weight in the market place. Nevertheless, it is being ignored left and right around the world. This speaks volumes about the real powerlessness of the CJLS outside 3080 Broadway.

Heres a fact if your raised conservative you will either become reform or orthodox. Nobody stays conservative.
