More On Yesterday's PETA Protest In Iowa

KWWL, which bills itself as "Iowa's News Channel," has a report on yesterday's PETA protest at the Allamakee county courthouse.

Oddly, the report claims that:

AgriProcessors made one change to it's kosher slaughter method since PETA first start making accusations. They will now use stun guns on cattle that struggle after slaughter.

Is throat-ripping back? Will there be a second cut? Is the KWWL report simply flawed?

Only time – and the USDA – will tell.

Best quotes:

  • Members of PETA don't see this as a final attempt. Goldsmith says, "they are capable of slaughtering these animals humanely. We would like to see better enforcement to make sure these things are done humanely."

  • AgriProcessor's Vice President, Sholom Rabushkin, says PETA's goals go beyond the ethical slaughter of cattle. Rashbushkin says, "Iowa's economy is based on livestock and handling and what PETA wants is quite clear, to have Iowans out of work."
  • Tim Rooney watched the protest and says, "when you're in Northeast Iowa, dealing with people who have gone deer hunting and have dressed out their own cattle and killed their own chickens, you're going to have a lot of difficulty finding grassroots support in killing animals for food. Especially when you have on a leather belt and shoes behind your sign."

Wow, here's an example of the press that actually calls out left-wing loonies!!

Of course, Shmarya prefers to travel with the likes of PETA rather than our respected Rabbonim.

He is against the recent actions of Agudah, the OU, and other respected organizations like the CRC. Of course, he has no love for our friends at Chabad.

Where does that leave Shmarya? Out in the cold. Perhaps one day, he'll learn that it is much easier to criticize (and that's assuming that those criticisms are valid and truthful, which probably doesn't apply here) than it is to build.
