Lewin Lets The Trachea Out Of The Bag
Rubashkin's attorney Nathan Lewin has written another article on Shechita-gate. (Please see the post below this one.)
In it Mr. Lewin writes:
Some Orthodox rabbis urged that in order to avoid a public misperception of cruelty, one step in the process — a second cut and removal of the trachea — not be done.
So it appears that throat-ripping was the norm at AgriProcessors for some time. Agriprocessor's spokesman Mike Thomas has denied this. Rabbis Kohn, Genack and Belsky have also denied it.
Yet Mr. Lewin has now (unwittingly?) confirmed this barbaric practice was the norm.
Perhaps this is because PETA claims to have more than 5 hours of video tape proving throat-ripping always took place at Rubashkin's plant.
But more likely it is because PETA gave all 5 hours of this tape to the USDA.

Thank G-d for the blogosphere! Remember Dan Rather? Bloggers cross-checked the facts and found CBS's claims about Bush's miltary servise to be unfounded. If the OU, Agri, Lewin, etc. think they can get away with deception and pulling the wool over our eyes, all they need to do is look wat happened to Rather. If the facts don't add up, someone these days can find out very quickly.

And then what? Is the other shoe going to drop or what? Whether or not you agree with this situation not a thing is going to happen. So get over it this isn't Watergate.

Yet another argument for not allowing large monopolies to develop, in this case the OU and AgriProcessors. It's no surprise they are in bed together - there's too much money to be made by dominating the kosher meat market. I can't even find kosher beef around here (small New England city) from a different producer; Aaron's was immediately stocked at the local super market as soon as Zalman's went under. Interesting.
Where are the real orthodox rabbis these days - the honest, independent thinkers that question authority and don't spend all their time taking hits off of the OU pipe? Do the "modern orthodox" rabbis realize they've all been herded (sorry, couldn't resist) into a quasi-cult with the OU as their 770?

In regards to "Modern Orthodox" ... I onced heard a vort from a Chassidishe bachur that there is no such thing as "Modern Orthodox" anymore ... today, "you're either 'in' or you're 'out'"
