AS I would not want my taxes public, I can understand why these entities would not want theirs public as well if not required to do so by law. There are valid reasons why they may not want their financial information public.
That being said, the OU, KAJ and others, by not opening their finances to those within their community (broader in the case of the OU, narrower in the case of KAJ) essentially allow a small self-selecting group to decide how millions of dollars are spent on behalf of the community. It should be the community deciding how the money should be spent for the community.
But we do not even select our leaders. So it should not be surprising we do not choose how they spend what are in essence communal funds.
The simple fact is that no doubt our local shuls have more to answer to within the community then the OU.
I am not a member of Bruers, but their own members should have a right to see how their money is raised and spent.
As I said before, R' S.R. Hirsch called for a democratic frum community well-over a century ago in Frankfurt.

Uhh, they are businesses. It makes sense that they don't want to have to pay taxes if they don't have to.
Maybe you should start your own certification, I wonder how many people would put their trust in it!
